santa claus and the rest of the delco cruisers will be here visiting with the kids in the pediatric ward. this is the 9th year for the toyed run it's called the holiday cruise for kids part of the toys for tots program. everyone brings an unwrapped toy and police escort leads 100 cars and motorcycles to several local hospitals and the marine corps base. the event this year held a special meaning after the sudden death of a marine who was a delaware county first responder. 32-year-old scott jones, firefighter and paramedic and marine was killed last saturday in a car crash. he was laid to rest last week and hundreds of toys were donated at his funeral in his memory. >> the kind of effort he would put forth, supporting others, it doesn't matter, toys for tots, charity events he was there for people, near and dear to them, just the community as a whole. >> scot was a great guy, always smiling. he was part of a big family, one of 8 children. his actual family, his firehouse family as well as his marine corps family. >>> scott's birth day was december 23, his twin brother tell tells us he lov

ward. when i was under a practice i practiced pediatrics and sometimes would have people say to me i'm guessing some people say to you i don't do how you take care of patients who have cancer. i am often struck by the use of humor in healthcare and humor in a setting that you normally think of. patients and family use humor. certainly nurses and healthcare teams. talk of over-the-top use of humor to cope with the difficulty. >> guest: people in healthcare can find very offputting not to say disturbing. but i don't think it comes out of being callous or uncaring. i got very attached and i felt his death. profoundly. after he died he had a lot of narcotics left for and asked us to get rid of it. you have to give a reason why you are wasting and the patient die died isn't one of the reasons. so together we would put the patient refused, which struck us as hilarious. we were laughing so hard people heard us out in the hallway. >> host: great example. you talk about what it's like to be in the healthcare system that sometimes seems to forget that it's working with human beings and sometimes are caug
