kathy ward of big apple pediatrics agrees. >> just because their brains are developing all along, any injury that can cause cerebral swelling can be more detrimental to them. >> she claims two or more concussions and have an impact on the child's academics. the brain is actively wired and forming new memories. they are learning many, many new things. the child's brain is much more susceptible. statistically if two or more question concussions you can have a lower grade point average. players, they have concussions but i'm not that afraid. the young athletes tell me the last thing on their mine is a concussion. all they are thinking about when they come out to the field is winning the game. of course it's different for parents. >> of course i worry, you're always thinking in any moment it can happen because in every sport there is a risk. >> she hated it when i played football. every time i got worried. with kids heading to practice and games, the best thing an athlete can do is listen to his or her body and when in doubt, sit out. i'm jessica "fox 5 news". >> still to come on the news
