let's turn to our meteorologist, pedram javaheri for more. >> yes, there are a lot of people talkingr rainfall. it is so dry, a lot of the moisture, before it falls to the ground it evaporates. it just doesn't come to the ground, you take a look at the numbers, 60% of california. worst case scenario, nearly 60% in the exceptional category and you take the severe drought all the way up to exceptional. 95% of the state covering. really the only areas not dealing with exceptional drought right there in the mohave desert, which of course is used to drought and dry conditions. so that is the region with the least amount of population when you talk about california's deserts. a scenario that doesn't have the worse case scenario taking place. here you have the lone glimmer of hope at least for some areas. this is what is left of tropical storm norbert. i want to loop it for you, showing you what happens, winds roughly 45 to 50 miles per hour as it fizzles apart. what it does is enhance the southerly flow pushing in towards the sea of cortez in the couple of coming days. the moisture will ce

for more, let's turn to pedram.we just heard him say, cabo san lucas, never gone through something like this before. >> this is among the strongest, if not the strongest, we're waiting to verify that information. but 1976, the last time we saw anything this significant. and the tip of the baja peninsula down there, the southern portions of mexico, only about 70 miles across. so when you have a storm system come in, very small target to make direct contact with. this one, 600-mile-across cloud field. slamming ashore across portions of cabo. and here's the wave height depiction. some of the latest models show you what we saw in the last several hours. 39-foot wave heights coming in on the eastern side of cabo san lucas. so if you've been to this portion of the world, the town very close to the airport, you have to take about a 35, 40-minute cab ride to make your way into the town itself. that town has much more destructive wind heights than cabo itself. but we're still talking about 70,000 people in the impact zone of

. >> pedram javaheri joins us. experiencing it right now. >> very exposed on the southern part of the peninsula. >> yeah, the peninsula is only about 70 mile as cross so the southern tip of it is so the landmark very small for a storm system to make direct impact on and back in 1976 we had quite a strong storm that impacted this region that we'll touch on momentarily but as this storm came to shore in the last two hours wave heights some 39 feet or 12 meters across this area. now, on the immediate coast there is a town near the airport if you've flown into cabo san jose 30 miles away before you take that ride into cabo. that town seeing the brunt of the wave heights but typically take that 39-foot wave high and factor a 3, about 13-foot wave heights on the coastline. norbert about two weeks ago and odile making landfall in the last couple of hours, the strongest to make landfall across portions of baja. based on the wind speeds the strongest was liza back in 1976, 140-mile-per-hour wind, here's odile in the last co

pedram, how bad was it? >> about 40% of the flights die parting out of denver, over 300 flights were delayed. only second to what's happening in chicago, but it's a different situation with a fire ina area. but there's a pretty deep storm system and winter weather taking place across higher elevations. want to show you video from denver. significant hail damage taking place. 24 is a hyundai dealership. all 500 cars were damaged. keep in mind, this is hail alley, the heart of an area with the highest frequency of hail anywhere in north america. more than $4 billion in damages have taken place in the past. the storm system, again, moving off to the east. so the main threat for severe weather, large hail remains in that area. right around kansas and on into nebraska. we had reports of hail-related damages, one report of a tornado across western portions of colorado. that was near the town of delta. no damages reported with that, but still an active day across this portion of the united states. take a look at th
