. >> reporter: among the dead, the entire babcock family of peeken, indiana. mom, dad, two kids, 14-month-old angel, found in a field after the storm, taken off of life support yesterday. across the street from where the babcocks lived, genie llewellyn's home but she's thankful her family made it. this charlotte, north carolina family is thankful too, three of the children were sucked out of the house when the twister struck. all of the kids were hospitalized but none had serious injuries. the doctors gave the kids a special nickname. >> they looked at him and couldn't believe it. they called him a the miracle baby. >> reporter: in kentucky, a woman prayed that a twister would go away. >> take this away from my home! >> reporter: she lived, so many miracles, amid enormous destruction. >> those are storms we usually see in the summer or spring. >> 440 tornado warnings. >> unbelievable in one day. time for weather across the nation on this monday morning. that snow now hits parts of the tornado zone, stretching from indiana, all the way to north carolina, with a

. >> reporter: at least 39 people died across five states. 15-month-old angel babcock from new peeken, indiana, was the latest victim. she was found alive in a field near her home on friday. but died from her injuries sunday night. doctors said there was nothing more they could do for angel. there was swelling in her brain. they asked all of the extended family to come to the hospital and they said their final goodbyes before taking her off life support yesterday. >> heart breaking. terrell, i know residents are still facing communications and power outages. so how are they getting by? >> well, a lot of folks, what they're doing, it is old school. it is word of mouth. they come here, and they talk to each other's cell phones, it was spotty yesterday. and it was out all together in the days after the storm. and another big issue, too, now is the roads and how slick they are with the winter wether that is here. but no textmenning, that is not working 0 -- no text messaging, that is not working out and facebook accumulation is not what people can rely on. they have to see each other. >>
