peggy? >> well, last night at 9:00 is when this all began. it took all sorts of police vehicles, police officers off of the tactical unit to use their hostage negotiation skills to help out in this situation. a 13-year-old boy barricaded in his own home. it took 16 hours to bring him out. >> the reason why we're all here is nobody wants to, you know, get hurt. nobody wants to die. >> this resident couldn't sleep last night as she listened to san francisco police negotiators encourage an armed 13-year-old boy to surrender. >> he's autistic. he has a knife. he barricaded himself in the garage and we've been talking to him all night to try to get limb to put the knife down and surrender so we can get help. >> the boy had an argument with his parents. several bomb squad teams and more than 20 officers stayed up all night trying to help the boy. a robot sent in to check on him brought him out. but he wouldn't drop the knife. finally, more than 16 hours after it started, a beanbag gun was used twice and officers were able to get the boy into an amb
