cardinal pell has always maintained his innocence. to child sexual abuse. this was the result of a five—year comprehensive inquiry into this and was published in 2017. the parts that had to do with it, that were related to how cardinal george pell responded to some of the sexual abuse claims and complaints that came to him at different stages were redacted for, as you say, three years because of legal actions against him. and it is only after his acquittal last month by the high court that we are now seeing what the commission has found. and it does make for some damning reading, really, as far as cardinal pell is concerned because it found out that george pell knew about sexual abuse, child sexual abuse, being committed by the clergy as early as the 1970s but that he had failed to take action or protect children on more than one occasion. it goes on to give examples. back in 1973, at the dioceses of ballarat, in the state of victoria, and specifically to behaviours that have to do with gerald ridsdale, a priest that had later admitte
