capitol where house speaker nancy pelosi and senate majority leader chuck schumer are briefing reporters and talking about the gun legislation the house is considering today. this is live coverage on c-span2. >> hr-8 and hr-1846. the first one deals with background checks before anyone can buy a firearm, they would have to pass a background check to ensure that they're not criminals, they're not domestic abusers, or they're not dangerously mentally ill. the second bill, hr-1446, known as the charleston loophole bill, will tighten up the background check laws to make sure that people don't fall through the cracks, criminals or people who are danger to themselves or others don't fall through the cracks and are able to get firearms without first passing the background check. these two pieces of legislation will go a long way in curbing gun violence. every day 30 people are killed by someone using a gun. if you include suicides and accidental death involving firearms, that number jumps up to 100 people a day. gun violence costs taxpayers 280 billion dollars every year. hr-8, the background c
