the peninsula, 60 to about 62. san francisco, upper 50s to low 60s at this point with, again, increasing cloud cover. an onshore flow will mainly return at the coast. north bay, 63 in santa rosa. the tri valley, from record-setting heat on monday and temperatures in the low 70s, to 63 as we head throughout tomorrow's forecast. now let's get to the changes you all want. that is when are we going to see this air quality improve and why is it going to improve? we have an area of low pressure offshore. as that starts to get closer for tomorrow, the thing that is going to be key that's going to happen is that is going to actually merge with this cold front. it's a little bit complicated, but nonetheless, it's going to help to wipe away any kind of major rain chances, but the two side effects most important are the cooling temperatures and also the increasing wind. so let's get to the colder temperatures. you can see for thursday, conditions in the low to mid 50s in palo alto. also for livermore. santa rosa at 57. we'll

this time on the peninsula. several people are spending christmas morning looking for a new place to live. this after a fire ripped through an apartment complex. it happened near the san francisco general hospital just after midnight. fire officials say one person was take on to the hospital with the extent of injuries are not clear at this time. crews were able to get control of the blaze pretty quickly, but several units were damaged. ten adults were displaced. the cause of the fire is under investigation. >>> police are investigating a holiday break in spree with nine cars stolen in just a little over a week. the thieves do not have to drive off with their loot. today in the bay reports now each car was waiting to get serviced as a dealership likely with the car's keys in the ignition. >> reporter: police believe there are eyes scoping it it out here at the mall. thieves hitting the mercedes dealership and across the street at the toyota where six vehicles went missing this last weekend. >> one of my friends

on the oshika peninsula, most people work in the fishing industry but the waves destroyed their ports and boats. more than 2,000 people died in this area. many others lost their livelihoods. the people in each of the 30 communities along this peninsula have their own history and ways of doing things. the architects wanted to preserve those traditions so they started by visiting residents to find out exactly what they wanted. all areas that suffered tsunami damage have been designated as risk zones. this means most people can't rebuild their homes in the same place as before, but fishermen need to be close to the port to check on their boats, so the architects found this higher ground for them to build on. >> translator: from a safety point of view, it was decided to move people first, but we always have to keep in mind why they want to keep living there. >> reporter: some residents didn't have a reason to stay. many joined an exodus out of the area. the population of the peninsula is 70% of what it was before the disaster. >> translator: it's impossible to stop people from leaving the
