tonight, once again drifting from the north sea and it may linger here for a time to the east of the penninesham, is another so—called mortgage prisoner. her rate has almost doubled in a year to £1100 a month. she's asked not to be identified, but says she's drowning in debt. two years ago, it just all got too much. there was, you know, people demanding this and demanding that. and i couldn't afford to pay them, pay everyone. so ijust wanted to end my life, ijust wanted it over because it wasjust easier. lawyers acting for the so called mortgage prisoners say the government has made more than £2 billion from the sale of the northern rock loans. a law firm representing 5,000 mortgage prisoners wants the government to help. it's going to the high court to argue the householders shouldn't have to pay the high rates and they deserve compensation. their trapped nature arose out of a huge financial crisis - where banks completely collapsed, which led to this sort of wholesale i transfer of mortgages to these inactive lenders and lenders i who don't necessarily behave - in a way that a normal high s
