in the western pennsylvania pacific we called them typhoons. you might think strength is determined wye wind speed but we also look at central minimum pressure to determine the ultimate strength, the strongest system ever, tropical system, typhoon tip, 870 million bars in 1979 but there is pennsylvania trish, lowest pressure so far, 879 millibars making it the fourth strongest cyclone ever recorded on the globe. as far as our standard, hurricane scale of intensity it is a category five which starts at 157 miles an hour, wind went up to 200 miles an hour with patricia. so really off the scales. why is patricia a so strong? it has very warm surface temperatures, ocean water of 87 degrees, incredibly warm and that water is very deep. light wind sheer, that is wind higher up in the atmosphere they are strong and cause thunderstorms in the hurricane. if they are light they can grow in strength and abundant a atmosphere moisture fools that hurricane and that has been present as well. as of the latest advisory from the national hurricane center, penns
