we are in pennsylvania. maryland, which is a border state, had troops on both sides, is about 10 miles south of here. pennsylvania as a free state. people werenia, the loyal, northern citizens. the idea they were not as patriotic as they should have been is preposterous. it is an idea put forth early on. after the battle of gettysburg, reporters came to the town. you can only imagine the situation. 20,000 wounded soldiers in and around the town. 2000 people lived here. both armies had left....
