jessica parker, bbc news, in altoona, pennsylvania.espondent naomi rakem is in new york. what more do we know about luigi mangione and the circumstances surrounding his arrest? a chance sighting led to the dramatic break in the shooting of brian thompson. a valedictorian and ivy league graduate, luigi mangione. he was about 200 miles west of the site of the shooting. a ceo, father of two, lost his life in a brazen attack. police believe they have their mine, and we are learning more about luigi mangione, an otherwise high achieving person in his 20s who ranted about corporate america. this morning he is behind bars. the 26—year—old was arraigned and later charged with second—degree murder yesterday in the shooting death of brian thompson. police were called to the scene when the maryland man was seen, they approached him and asked if he had recently been to new york. police say he then became visibly nervous and shaking. he was carrying a fake newjersey id that matches the one that is used to check into a hostel in new york last week.

he has two hearings on thursday in pennsylvania. the first of those hearings regards the charges against him in pennsylvania itself, and then there will be an extradition hearing in pennsylvania which likely will result in his being extradited to new york. with or without a waiver on his attorney's part, particularly now that we have this indictment. one of the other things that they're going to need, if he's still fighting it, is a warrant from the governor of new york, kathy hochul, who said she would take all steps to make that happen. i want to point something out to you and our viewers about the indictment. you said that this will help bring about a conversation about health care in our country and it has. but the other conversation that i think this case will likely bring about has to do with guns in our country because so many of the charges here have to do with how luigi mangione allegedly killed brian thompson. because there is a charge here for the possession of an assault weapon. there is a charge here with the possession

pennsylvania is a great example. pennsylvania in theory was first state to have any charges against luigi mangione. they're not going to try him first. they're going to try him dead last. so 'rnormally there is the rule y that whoever has the body fir gets to prosecute. there is a lot of cooperation as there erwill be here. new york state and federal prosecutors will likely cooperate in their prosecution coof mangione. there is another thing too. mangione's attorney karen ngfriedman agnifilo said this prosecution might have been overcharged in the state court and might also raise double jeopardy issues. that's the rule that you can't prosecute someone twice for the same crime. was the case overcharged? possibly. and because of that, the first degree murder charge in state ar court, the state is going to have to prove terrorism, which may sound easy given the terror that the shooter inflicted. but that is not a layup. terrorism is somewhat difficult to define. that might end up being a hang-up. >> here he is, in his o
