how much would a gallon of pepsi cost us? i mean petroleum is relatively speaking, rather inexpensive considering how much we use. but the important thing to bear in mind is that there are high barriers to entry in terms of finding the oil and producing it. the economies are to scale. the marginal cost of oil goes down the more that you produce. but it is very tricky to find and produce that oil in the first place. and the other point that i want to make here is how much oil is there. if i knew the answer i wouldn't be with that history center, i assure you. but generally, there are two answers. if you ask a geologist how much oil there is, they will tell you based on how much the existing state of technology and how much they know about the world at this given point in time they will give you an answer. the problem is that that answer is only good for that particular point in, time it's based on their knowledge at that particular point of time, that is why geologists in 20 or 30 years will tell you we only have 30 or 40 year
