sonny perdue: i think it is a solution.hey have to be a wordsmith and the lawyers have to approve and congress has a say. it has to be signed. i think it is an agreement in principle. it is solid in the way. the whole theory is what i call a domino effect. we knew we wanted to restore fora and get it back agriculture, mexico and canada, north america. then we will turn our attention to others. there is announcement around the eu. the real work is beginning over conversation and that is where ambassador light house or has gone to the eu to talk to colleagues there. they have been in transient about protectionism. favorable discussions with japan. that would be helpful and good news. just south korea chorus agreement has been restored. we are waiting on the signatures on that. >> and in this china. >> that's right. farmers always live in unpredictable times, whether it pests, or, past -- storms. the longer trade issues go on, the longer it bears on them regarding the future. they are hopeful and optimistic people, but we need

i know that secretary perdue and the department of agriculture also recognize the need for long-term certainty, and have made efforts to provide temporary relief to our hard-working producers. for years the united states has worked to establish itself as a reliable supplier around the world to domestic agriculture policies like the farm bill and to strong international trade policies. free trade agreements including kafta and many others have boosted the agricultural committee and supported growth and, of course, there is nafta. in the early 1900s as ranking member of the house agriculture committee i traveled with my dear from texas to build support for the brand new north american free trade agreement or nafta. at that time the total value of u.s. agriculture exports was $43 billion. since 1994, when nafta went into force, the value of u.s. agriculture exports to canada has increased by 271%. to mexico by 305%. in 2017, the total value of u.s. agriculture exports was over $138 billion. let me repeat that. over the time that nafta has been in force the total value of u.s. agricultur
