governor perry today also gave a speech which the rick perry folks bill today as a major rick perry foreign policy address. he delivered this address before a school assembly of students at the citadel in south carolina which is a military school. team rick perry, apparently lured all of the cadets to the speech by offering free pizza if they came. you could not only see cadets chowing down on pizza before governor perry arrived in the auditorium to give his speech. in the official citadel photographs from the rick perry event you can sort of play where's waldo with the stray piece of pizza that didn't get polished off before the speech but the cadets wanted to save for later. see the guy on the left missed the plate. it is okay. it's still good. only there for one speech. you can still eat it off the floor, right? only reason i spent that much time looking at such detail from the photographs at the citadel today is because the radio of the rick perry speech today was like gold. it was almost impossible to get ahold of for most of the day, even though the rick perry folks billed this as a m

perry does have the benchmark of saying look what we have with barrack obama. on the other hand the real issue is i don't know if anybody is ready on day one for the presidency but the issue comes down to character and leadership. an argument could be made that abraham lincoln wasn't ready. he was a failed house candidate. he won one term. he was a lawyer from illinois and he wasn't even the first choice of the republican party. he became one of our greatest if not the greatest president next to president washington. so when you look historically the problem with rubio's argument is he almost sounds like he's a little bit of a desperate young man going into a job interview. his answer really should be that this is about leadership. it's about character. it's about who we are. he could use abraham lincoln example but you don't want to compare yourself to lincoln but i think in the front we're looking at job experience. that's where perry is right and then rubio will have to prove he has the character and leadership to lead. >> there seems to be a move toward the

mark: today includes once from scott walker, ted cruz, and rick perry, and none of them much like the current federal tax code. is the issue of taxes a winning issue for republicans in 2016? john: it really depends on which republican becomes the nominee and what their tax plans are. there will be a big debate about tax reform in the republican party. we don't know what their tax plan will be. marco rubio's tax plan will not be rand paul's tax plan. if there is a tax plan at the republicans can get behind that looks family-friendly, that isn't just a big tax cut, that is a different calculus that the old school, we will cut rates on the rich. mark: everybody wants simpler, fairer, flatter. it is easier within the republican nomination fight to do that but they have yet to talk about deductions. in the general election, if you are for a flat tax against hillary clinton, you will be creamed. john: marco rubio doesn't want to cut rates and other reform conservatives want to keep the top rates high stop mark: it to come out for a flat tax without making it revenue neutral or progressive y
