so deputy stevens loaded up his eldest daughter ava in his squad car and decided to drive her to perryville elementary school himself. and once he arrived there, he asked the principal if she would mind if he stood watch outside. >> i tell you i'll just sit in my squad car outside the school for a couple of hours. this is my day off. so you know that's the least i can do. so i did that. and then i actually -- i came home and she thought it might be a good idea to put my union form and i -- uniform on. >> reporter: his wife christy was moved by his gesture. >> you know he called me throughout the day and said i'm still sitting in the apartment. i'm going the ng lot. i'm going to sit here for a while and i thought this was really sweet. as a mom i was like you know this is really sweet and i -- was grateful for her that she was able to have that as well as you know just proud of my husband. so i threw it on my facebook page. >> reporter: the response where her friends -- from her friends was almost immediate and after posting it on a national talk show host page, it went viral. >> i checked r
