mayor, mark leno, aaron peskin.c and park department to be the home of this incredible department. as you heard before, this is an inspirational symbol to the world. the mayor often talks about beacons on a hill. this is really a beacon on the hill that speaks to the world about the values san francisco has. one of those values is really preservation of things, making sure that when they're built, they're built to last, that they're beautiful, that their aesthetics are great. this is 75 years later and it's never looked this good. i really want to thank every single person today, i particularly want to thank rose dennis and her team. i want to thank the park rangers and the police department and the fire department and every single city employee who worked so hard over the last few days to make this work today. yesterday we were at the california academy of sciences unvietnamming an incredible sculpture by the artist maya ling. and to me, san francisco has this her i tange of art. we don't want to just put things up

[applause] >> thank you, president peskin. next speaker, please. >> hello, my name is brook dimmerly. i work for sciu ten to one. i represent health care workers here in the city and county of san francisco. i will keep my comments really short because some people have already made some of the remarks i was going to make and they have done it in a very eloquent way. i just want to say thank you very much to supervisor campos for introducing this legislation. and thank you also to supervisors cohen, mar, avalos, kim and mirkarimi for co-sponsoring it. and i just wanted to give you one -- i was originally going to speak about the consumer aspect but supervisor campos already did that quite eloquently. so i would like to just give one short example from my own life, that gives an example of why the time period is important. when i first came back to the bay area, my much beloved bay area from hawaii, i was on cobra for a while and i had an incident with the dog where i tried to break up a dog fight and it is up at the emergency r

of appeals has found that a sign was illegal getting the sign down and because of that supervisor peskin is also sponsoring amendments to section 610 of the planning code that would provide for administrative hearings and penalties that would be enforceable particularly in conjection with the city attorney to try and deal with those cases where there just hasn't been compliance. >> thank you. this is a gigantic sign and it's interesting. it's getting cheaper and easier to manufacture billboards and signs. we no longer have the hand painted signs. we have vinyl signs just produced out of a printer from a computer. you of doing that kind of sign, is that right? >> it's getting more and more difficult to getting spaces to put up signs and largely controlled by a couple of companies doing the outside advertising. it's unlikely we will get the space. we can get the material but they control it. >> as we look along we see general advertising mixed with the advertising for the retail spaces and the right spot. this historic neon sign we hope some day gets restored. >> that is a good example wit

was it going to be a tom ammiano, david campos, an arin peskin, a former supervisor? >> but then mayor newsom said that he may delay his wearing him that as a lieutenant governors for a week. then the border supervisors, the modern new board with let the mayor. >> the question is when i do that. i have no charter obligations to do that. my term does not expire for another year-plus. so i have to resign first before a new mayor can take that oath of office. i have a role to play, even though the board of supervisors is the official who. >> mayor newsom, infuriatingly, frankly, kept his cards close to the best until the last moment. people did not know if he was going to stay in office to allow the new board to vote, people did not know if he was going to go to sacramento early. >> the key to this whole process that the board of supervisors cannot appoint an interim mayor until the office is actually vacant. he did not want to be the necessarily to the sport of supervisors, which were his political adversaries for so many years. >> anything can happen at the board of su

and i want to thank the chairman of the board of supervisors, aaron peskin, for being here as well.d state senator leno who is with us as well. so many distinguished leaders in our community. it's also great to be here with ken nelly, who is so responsible for making today important. and ann hallstead. you probably think i'm going to name every single person who is here. it probably feels that way. i want to just acknowledge jarrod. the acting head of the parks and rec who guarantees that all this will be as beautiful as ever. but let me tell you on a personal basis what coit tower means to me and special gratitude to the coit family here today the coit tower when i am in san francisco, and it's not as much as i would like to be, is the firstsite -- first sight i see in the morning and the last sight i see at night. since i work in a bicoastal way, i'm up early and see the sun come up and the first thing that comes into view is coit tower from my home and the sun, when there is sun, glistening off coit tower, is a beautiful, beautiful opening of the day and a reminder of how blessed
