it happened in penngrove, just north of petaluma . andrea nakano is there tonight. >> reporter: the fire started here at this home on hornsby lane. as you can see, it is still smuggling right now. firefighters have been there putting out hotspots. luckily no one was home at the time. they were able to rescue several dogs, but we are now hearing that two animals are missing, a cat and a turtle. we want to ow otage we got earlier today. fire crews got a juafr 00 this afterno the spokesman for the fire department said crews were already in the area and responded right away. in all, roughly 200 firefighters were on scene to try to contain the blaze, but it's hot and breezy this afternoon. the fire quickly spread to 10 to 15 acres, and damaged some outbuildings in the area. those living in the immediate area where evacuated, but many decided to stay. >> i put all my stuff in my suitcase since i'm visiting, then he came out and walked over there, and then he was over there for a while, and he came back and he said that lady lost her home. >

checking the visibility down about 3 miles at least for santa rosa and down to half a mile for petaluma this morning. also a little bit of mist along the coast. as we take you hour by hour on future cast and we should see the skies clear as we go through the day to day with just some clouds along the coast and talking about our air qualities, so we are look at hazy skies and also looking at some unhealthy air quality for sensitive groups t north bay, east baynd for the south bay. so especially inland. future cast smoke, this is at the surface. what you can expect as we go through our day to day. we are look at more haze especially inland. you will notice that. here we be for your tuesday with some more haze out there. so really looking at those wildfires burning to our north and bringing in some of that haze from all of that smoke from wildfires. the monument fire, the river complex fire, the dixey fire as well. we are looking at upper 60s along the coast. around the bay in the 70s. 72 in san francisco. 77 in oakland. the peninsula in the 80s. our inland locations upper 80s to upper 90s

attend dry lightning strikes in petaluma.this video just coming into our newsroom in the past half hour storms like these are forcing the bay area to brace for a potentially devastating wildfires. thanks for joining us here on kron. 4 news at 10. i'm ken wayne and i'm pam moore. the potential for dry lightning on more of it. plus the gusty winds in the bone dry land. >> well, it's all triggering a red flag warning in parts of the east and north bays and the conditions are only expected to get worse over the next few hours. we have team coverage for you tonight on the high fire danger while force. dan thorn is live in concord, which is under the red flag warning tonight and our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is tracking the conditions as they stand right now. but first, let's head to the north bay where kron four's gayle ong is live for us in santa rosa. gail o we've been seeing images of these lightning strikes along. >> highway one. oh, one in petaluma. have you seen anything in santa rosa. >> ken and pam. i'm here at t

we've already seen rain on the ground in petaluma and rohnert park. the dynamics are available. especially in the north bay for late tonight, a thunderstorm or something of that nature and again because it's so dry 10 years ago, this would have happened. it would have been, man. you know, it wouldn't have been this. it wouldn't require this response. but because of the fire situation because of the droughts, here we go. um and that red flag warning is up. it's up till tomorrow morning. the story is with this high brought into some tropical moisture. that low is the trigger one of the trigger that would get us to thunderstorms. right now. the trigger is not there. the trigger's getting there. the voice. this year is creating showers, but when that trigger gets there, that's tonight at around midnight. that's when the opportunity for a scattered thunder shower will occur, and so they can kind of see it more clearly, here's the subtropical moisture. here's the trigger. if you will, or the engine of this weather system, the tropical moisture is more than fuel. so this is the model.

from sky fox, a house burns in the petaluma countryside tuesday afternoon. no one was home when it started and family members tried to return since gone. the house is gone, burned down frantic about the pets. i wasn't sure if she had gotten home yet. so i was worried about oliver animals. just seven dogs and i don't know how many horses now neighbors alerted arriving crews to the dogs, rescuing them from the garage. one firefighter suffered radiant burns through his turnout gear, so shoulder and leg. but through the turnout gear, intense heat. claim is getting larger and fast moving flames. 911 calls flooded in the fire went from the house to grasp, then spotted embers a half mile ahead. alarming spread. given relatively calm conditions. it's critical. it's critical and this was without a significant wind. this is just fuels and humidity. hundreds of homes were evacuated so firefighters could focus on structures, not saving people. an air attack and some 50 engines made the stop at 12 acres. well short of the town of pen grove. we've seen this repeatedly thi

the fire started at 1:00 off of hornsby lane in petaluma.quickly spread to 10 acres, leading to an evacuation order for 900 homes in the area. one homeowner tried to stop the flames using a garden hose. firefighters got a handle of things and people were allowed back into their homes. the good news, no one was hurt in the fire. in the south bay, city leaders tonight taking action after a number of deadly collisions between drivers and pedestrians in one particular neighborhood. a look at what's being done to make that intersection safer. reporter: standing at the intersection in san jose, we witnessed close calls after close calls. >> i walk about four or five miles, back and forth. it's the most dangerous part of my whole journey reporter: this resident has to raise his cane before stepping off of the curb. >> you see me here? i'm walking here. reporter: the site of seven collisions this year alone. it's the reason city leaders voted unanimously tuesday to add barriers installed as part of a safety pilot program with installation expected e

temperatures in the 70s and 80s for the north bay, 77 in petaluma and napa. in the 80s for the santa clara valley. it is still hot inland in the east bay, 94 in fairfield, still at 97 degrees. temperatures will back off tonight with longer nighttime hours, the sunrises keep getting later, sunsets keep getting earlier. the heat that builds up today escapes into space. temperatures drop down into the 50s by early tomorrow morning for most of us. then, we do heat up a couple of degrees above average around the bay. should be in the 70s for san francisco and oakland. 5 degrees above normal for san jose, closer to 10 degrees above average for concord reaching further into the 90s once again. on the coast, mid-60s. that's not bad from its number. low to mid 80s around the south end of the bay. temperatures in the mid-80s for san jose, closer to 90 for campbell and into the low 90s formorgan hill. into the middle portion of the 90s, low to mid 90s for the tri- valley, temperatures in the upper 90s in their usual hotspots. fairfield, antioch and brentwood, but everyo
