. >>> now to concerns over fire danger this week, looking at the dry conditions in petaluma from cal fire's tower camera. our meteorologist joins us now with the weather event causing a lot of concern. >> the view in petaluma, it's also going to get windy there. this is a wind event that gives us concern for fire weather in the mountains and we will talk about that first but we won't leave out the fact that this will be kind of wind effect that makes it windy everywhere which is unique because a lot of times it's just the red flag warning in the mountains. so that starts tonight at 11:00 and goes through tuesday 5:00 testing near 60 miles per hour. northbay mountains, east bay hills and down into the santa cruz mountains. we will look at that in more detail in the complete forecast, but the wind advisory is everybody. the fine print says gusts to 50 miles per hour at their worst. in the communities of the bay area it starts in the northbay valley's first tomorrow morning and by the afternoon we could see gusts to about 45 to the east bay valleys over here and maybe even along the eas

dairy california armors in petaluma caught a huge break thursday because of the drought. many of these cows have been drinking water trucked in from miles away. every day. our farmers are hauling. roughly about probably 60 70,000 gallons of water a day 10 truckloads a day, sometimes to their cows, but with this turn of a valve, they'll be able to replenish their water supplies without going through all that so without this program. those dairies would have had to go out of business. the new water is coming from an underground aquifer that the water district is tapping into through this drought relief. well it will now, said 1.6 million gallons of water a day to a storage unit in petaluma. cows and residents alike will be drinking it along with folks in sonoma in parts of marin county. this emergency relief well was used during the drought six years ago, but never to this extent. this is probably the largest use of groundwater to date. we have two other wells that will have to also be brought online. but for now, the demands are so great sonoma county relies on the russian

dairy california armors in petaluma caught a huge break because of the drought. many of these cows have been drinking water trucked in from miles away. every day. our farmers are hauling. roughly about probably 60 70,000 gallons of water a day 10 truckloads a day, sometimes to their cows, but with this turn of a valve, they'll be able to replenish their water supplies without going through all that so without this program. those dairies would have had to go out of business. the new water is coming from an underground aquifer that the water district is tapping into through this drought relief. well it will now, said 1.6 million gallons of water a day to a storage unit in petaluma will be drinking it along with folks in sonoma and parts of marin county. this emergency relief well was used during the drought six years ago, but never to this extent. this is probably the largest use of groundwater to date. we have two other wells that will have to also be brought online. but for now, the demands are so great sonoma county relies on the russian river as its main source

drying up in the historic drought, and many people have been running out of water, especially west of petalumabay farmers to sell off cattle and sheep, and rely on water that gets hauled in. no countwill provide some relief. according to sonoma water, that well will provide water for farmer hauling programs, and drinking waters for areas that normally rely on the russian river. however, it goes a step further. according to sonoma water, two other wells will be able to capture rainwater and winter water flows from the russian river. that water was going to the ground, acting as a reservoir for periods of drought. >> the level of need is probably the most drastic that it is ever been as far as hauling water goes. >> this project was actually designed to take water in the winter when it's more readily available, use a recharge facility like this to put it back into the groundwater, to sort of bank that water for most years, and be able to pull it out like we are doing today in drought conditions. that is the future of water for sonoma county. >> is all part of the santa rosa plain drought resilie
