pete muntean has been talking about this but they will go all around the country and be in place for early next week. >> sanjay, the vote yesterday was not unanimous, which is interesting to me. i mean, 17 people voted yes, four voted no. do we know why those four voted no? >> well, we know why at least a few of them voted no. they weren't all asked about it, which was interesting. typically after these types of advisory meetings you do have a sort of discussion, you know, why did you vote no or defend your vote, whatever, that didn't happen. we did talk to a few of these committee members afterwards. it seemed to come down to the age at which these vaccines might be recommended. as you know, it's 16 years old and up. when i went back and looked at the data, what you find is that out of the 40,000, 44,000 trial participants, there was only 103 that were 16 or 17 years old so a very small amount of data there. some said, well, we're going to vote no, sending it as a flag to the fda to say, hey, when the cdc recommends this, should they recommend this for 18 years and up? we don't know

cnn's pete muntean is at a distribution facilities in memphis, tennessee. what do we node about which states, which localities will be receiving the first deliveries? >> it's a bit of a race against the clock. the moderna vaccine, that first shipment came through this facility after it left a mckesson facility, the company in charge of distribution, actually over the state line in mississippi. that first shipment, a lot of labor-intensive work, working conditions to get this additional shipment off the door. now it's on the way to 3,000 individual locations across the country. those are places like hospitals, pharmacy, cvs and walgreens. this roll-out four times larger than the initial pfizer roll-out of last week. six million doses. as you mentioned the department of health and human services said maybe 20 million people could be vaccinated by the end of this month, part in thanks to the moderna vaccine, which has a bit of an advantage over the pfizer vaccine. it does not need to be kept at super-cold temperatures. a regular refrigerator will do just fine,

our pete muntean takes a look at some of the distribution challenges facing the u.s. >> it is widely upon, front line health care workers and those living in long-term care facilities should get vaccinated initially, but what's so interesting is we're learning from states they may not get enough vaccine to cover the top tier right off the bat. now they will have to prioritize within that subset the conditions are really stark in a place like california which we're learning will only get enough vaccine to cover roughly one in every ten front line health care workers right away. it is a rollout, and what remains to be seen is whether or not this will be smooth and quick or slow and rocky. states insist that they will keep vaccinating that top tier as they get more vaccine shipments in, but it is a process. transporting the vaccine will also be tricky. american airlines says it has a plan in place to begin transporting the vaccine within 24 hours of emergency fda authorization. the challenge here is keeping the vaccine cold, in some cases, super super cold. we know that the pfizer vacci

cnn aviation correspondent pete muntean is live at washington dulles airport. pete, good morning. those numbers are troubling to health experts. >> reporter: good morning, air kachlt you know, clearly plenty of people still traveling here even in spite of the cdc telling them not to and they are setting new records of the pandemic. the tsa says more than a million people flew on friday, on saturday and then again on sunday. nearly a million yesterday. it's that three-day streak that is so interesting, something we have not seen during the pandemic. that means about 3.2 million people flew between friday and sunday. this is crushing travel records of thanksgiving, although these numbers still about 40% of a year ago, that means plenty of people are staying home, but we've been talking to travelers who still have their reasons for getting out. >> do you have any concerns or safety concerns? >> i'm okay about it. i wore like two masks and everything, i'm trying to be six feet apart and everything. i'm okay with t you know, just hoping and praying that nothing happens. >> did you feel

cnn's pete muntean live at the pfizer plant in michigan where they were all shipped from, and you've had this incredible vantage point over the last few days. >> what a moment here, john, especially considering the fact that we first learned about this virus only about a year ago. and now the vaccine is leaving from here. u.p.s. and fedex trucks carrying the pfizer vaccine rolled out of here 8:30 yesterday morning, onboard 189 boxes of the vaccine, about a thousand vials to each box. that means about a million doses are now going to all 50 states. operation warp speed says 600 individual locals. places like hospitals and pharmacies, cvs and walgreens. we know that the deliveries start this morning. the bulk of the deliveries really, tomorrow morning. pfizer says months of planning, months of dry runs and preparation went into this major achievement. >> seeing these trucks go by, it just gave you a thrill to know that we are helping the world. friday night, when i got the news over our phones, i actually got a tear in my eye, because this is so, so exciting. this is history being made

this is the one to be kept at those incredibly cold temperatures, pete muntean is out front at dullesernational airport. tell us what you're seeing there. >> reporter: this is something you typically would not see. this is essentially one big refrigerator that united airlines will use to keep the vaccine cold. what it is, indeed, time to distribute the vaccine. airlines will be a critical part of the distribution, maybe take the vaccine the furthest in the supply chain to get it delivered to you. the really challenging part is keeping the vaccine cold enough. it is 40 degrees fahrenheit in here, but the moderna vaccine requires that it be negative 4 degrees fahrenheit. pfizer's vaccine about negative 100 degrees fahrenheit and require a special freezer. this is a key link from getting the vaccine from where it's made to getting it to you. airlines and air cargo companies are already using special refrigerated containers like this to carry pharmaceuticals. no actual vaccine in here, although earlier at dulles international airport, we did see a united flight off loaded some of these re
