. >> "today in the bay's" pete suratos is live at the san mateo county jail this morning. te, investigators say the couple put their dog in scolding hot water on purpose. >> reporter: yeah, good morning, laura and sam. the boyfriend in all this, paul was arrested in oregon last week. brought here later this week to the san mateo county jail. let's show you that picture of that 2-year-old dog that died as a result of those burns. according to investigators are the peninsula humane society the couple allegedly intentionally burned the dog with scolding water back in april. his girlfriend shelby brought the dog to an emergency vet clinic in may. that's nearly two weeks after this burning incident. the clinic wasn't able to save the dog which had third degree burns over 40% of the body. they said it was an accident and now this case is being turned over to the da's office. >> primary focus is obviously to hold someone accountable for causing that much pain to an animal. >> reporter: now, she has been released on bail and due in court in october. live in redwood city, pete surat

our pete suratos is back this morning. pete, what are crews telling you at this hour? day three of the cold fire in yolo county and as you mentioned, this fire has more than doubled in size since yesterday morning. now at 4600 acres and roughly 10% con tapeme tanment, we're still at highway 128 near pleasant valley road. that road is closed as crews come in and out. but that fire started on tuesday afternoon just east of lake berryessa. used helicopters yesterday to do water drops in that steep terrain. we just spoke to cal fire and they tell me that more than 600 firefighters are on the ground battling the fire just last night. and fire crews were primarily working the north end of the fire yesterday. but that cal fire pio just told mow the focus is shifting more to the southwest and of the fire. while they're making progress, once again today, it's the weather that could play a big factor. >> you can probably feel right now there's a pretty good breeze coming through here. this was anticipated. and it's kind of that third element between dry fuels, hot weather, and a

"today in the bay's" pete suratos brought you live reports yesterday on "today in the bay." us again this morning back in winters near the fire line. pete, what is the latest at this hour? >> you know, we just got this information from cal fire that evacuees from the golden bear estate will be allowed back into their homes at 8:00 a.m. this morning. now, this fire has jumped an acreage. 4700 acres. it's roughly at 15% containment. we're at highway 128 and pleasant valley road. right now we want to show you the smoke above the mountains. showing where the cold fire is in that mountainous terrain. it started on tuesday afternoon just east of lake berryessa. the fire continued to burn overnight. cal fire says the southerly flow of the fire created spot fires on the southwest side just last night. now more than 600 firefighters were on the ground battling those spot fires. and that's why cal fire says the focus is shifting more to the southwest end of this fire. and the weather once again could be a challenge for firefighters today. >> despite the winds, the winds are not as bad

"today in the bay's" pete su suratos is live at the scene. pete, how is it looking right now?> reporter: good morning. as you mentioned, 2200 acres and it's now at 5% containment. we're being told more fire personnel have been added to battle the cold fire. i want to show you what it looks like. highway 128. plea about valley road. that area is closed off as crews come in and out that are dealing with this fire. now, give you some background information. the fire started around 5:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon east of lake barisea. ye earlier i reported that power lines. >> reporter: threatened due to the fire. this steep terrain is causing issues as far as access for the firefighters. i spoke with cal fire. here's what they had to say about it. >> our dozers and hand crews have a lot of difficulty trying to get in this terrain because it is so steep. the footing is so bad, trying to get the equipment in. the dozers are cutting line on the perimeter of this fire, at the same time they're making roadways or access for the engines. it's a slow process. >> so is this terrain -- >> r
