pete suratos is in san francisco with whether or not it's realistic to think we'll have any sports at all. pete? >> reporter: good morning. that is the big question, the future of sports. we know there's going to be a big decision as it relates to college sports. we'll get to that in just a moment. but we know major league baseball is set to start in a matter of weeks and already, guys, several players across the league have tested positive for covid-19 including a member of the oakland a's. it's not just the a's that are dealing with the issues. the san francisco giants are dealing with issues as it relates to covid-19. their covid tests were not returned on time so they went ahead and suspended practices at oracle park. now major league soccer is also restarting. that will take place on friday. you have the san jose earthquakes participating in this despite one team in the league withdrawing altogether due to ten players testing positive for covid-19. now we did get a chance to speak to a local sports law attorney who explained exactly what fans should expect when it comes to sports

pete suratos is live in knightsen just outside brentwood.want to know how the deputies are doing. >> reporter: good morning to you, kris. we know two of the deputies were recovering at a hospital at last check. hopefully we get an update at some point today, but we know this began as a domestic violence incident which led to an hours long standoff between contra costa county sheriff's deputies and the suspect. here is what we know according to the latest information from the sheriff's deputies. just before 10:00 a.m. they were called out to the 1700 block of green acres lane in knightsen, just outside of brentwood. a female victim says the suspect broke her ribs and even poured gasoline on her trying to set her on fire. she was able to get away from the scene by the time deputies arrived. it didn't end there. the s.w.a.t. team was called out around 1:00 p.m. to try to get the suspect to surrender. they say at 9:00 p.m. the suspect came out of the home firing a shotgun at three deputies. deputies returned fire at the suspect who was pronounce

reporting live, pete suratos. >> thanks, very much. what a mess down there. thank you. a lot of bay area beaches closed due to the spread of covid-19. take a look at this map, the counties in yellow, all closed their beach parking lot. beaches are opened. but people are being encouraged to stay home. and in red, we've got pacifica, half moon bay, they are closed. monterey county has closed its beaches and beach parking lots. san francisco beaches are closed as well except foot and bike traffic. this was a scene at coin beach. a fair amount of folks decided to walk to the sand, enjoy the day. nothing like typical fourth of july crowds there. those that did go were largely supportive of the parking lot closures. families with young children say it was inconvenient, but they say it's worth it. they are glad there are measures in place. >> because cases have been increasing. >> it's not a punishment to come to the beach.
