reporting live, pete suratos, nbc bay area news. >> all right, pete, thanks. >>> all right. well, it's time to get a look at that forecast for us, kari. and we saw even there in oakland where the air quality, the sky is just very hazy. >> yeah, it has been so smokey. and it's getting even worse right now as we take a live look outside in walnut creek, visibility is only at about two miles here. so you can't even see the hills in the distance. and we are seeing that across many parts of the bay area, especially the east bay. and it really doesn't even matter which direction the wind is coming from. because there are fires in that direction. and right now we have a northerly wind, so it's bringing in smoke from the glass fire. but then you also have the zogg fire that's really burning pretty hot right now. then from the south, we are also seeing some of those fires across parts of southern california from the creek fire to the sqf fire that we continue to monit we're heading into the 90s for today. as we head toward 2:00, livermore will be at 95 degrees. we're at 91 in santa r

"today in the bay's" pete suratos joins us live this morning. fica with a holiday message from health leaders we all need to listen to, pete. >> reporter: yeah, good morning to you, laura. the message in pacifica and other parts of the bay area is not to come to the beaches. they're going to close them down for labor day weekend and the beach parking lots. that will begin tomorrow. that will last throughout all of labor day weekend. here are some of the other areas making that similar decision. we know santa cruz county will also close its boechs for labor day weekend. that will start tomorrow and will last through monday. i do want to point out saturday and sunday the beaches will be open between 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. monterey county is closing beaches that will start tonight and will last through monday. point reyes and marin county will be closed due to the woodward fire and, of course, pacifica beaches and parking lots will be closed starting tomorrow. that will last through tuesday. as you can see a number of beaches will still remain open
