nbc justice correspondent pete williams joins me now. , with this high court ruling, does she have any other options? >> reporter: well, the options now are from the other side, really, because right now the lawyers for the couples who are seeking marriage licenses have gone back to the federal judge who last month ordered her to issue these licenses, and they're now ask the judge to hold her in contempt of court. they say they don't want to see her go to jail, but here's how they end their request. they say, we don't seek to compel davis' compliance through incarceration since she continues to collect compensation from the state for her duties. they urged the court to impose financial penalties sufficiently serious and increasingly onerous to compel her immediate compliance. so the judge is going to have to decide what to do about that. he'll probably ask for the other side to respond. we're told he's going to have a conference call with the lawyers involved here. he could have a hearing, or he could act based on the record before him no
