peter barnes, all over it. hey, peter. >> reporter: that's right.may not know the makeup of the senate until january. two senate races appear headed for runoffs. republicans currently hold 45 senate seats, they need six more to take control, but polls show races very tight in louisiana and georgia. if a major candidate in those races does not get more than 50% of the votes, they'll be runoffs, and third-party candidates in both states could force runoffs in december 6th in louisiana and january 6th in georgia three days after the new congress gavels in. there's an open seat in georgia, davidpered sue in a dead heat with michelle nun. amanda swafford has peeled off 11%. and tea party republican rob manis neither landrieu nor cassidy comes close in the three way, but polls show in a runoff, cassidy wins. averaging all the polls together and if the elections were held today, republicans would pick up eight seats, but lose kansas where incumbent republican pat roberts has been closing in, in the final days on independent greg orman in the latest polls.

peter barnes live at the white house to start us off. we've got a dow record, but seen many of those over the past couple of months. what are democrats likely most concerned about today after hearing the gop leadership priorities from mitch mcconnell and john boehner? >> pushing back on this at least, the white house is, liz, and ahead of this lunch meeting tomorrow, boehner and mcconnell did list their priorities in that "wall street journal" op-ed this morning for the new congress when it meets in january. they include legislation to authorize construction of the keystone pipeline, legislation to encourage employers to hire more veterans, a bill to define the workweek as 40 hours, which would change those mandates in obamacare for providing health care coverage for workers who work more than 30 hours a week, and finally, they also want a measure to support charter schools. the leaders say these bills would provide an obvious and potentially bipartisan starting point for the new congress, and president obama, to help the economy, but th

to peter barnes. what would a republican-controlled everything on the hill mean? >> healthcare reform. republicans say they want to repeal obamacare but you just said the problem, which is they're not going to get the 60 votes they need to make -- be able to overcome any fill buster and won't be able to do anything about the president's veto or override a veto so health care reform probably won't do anything. but they could tweak the mandate like the individual mandate, and one thing they can do is repeal the medical device tax. we have seen support for doing this from republicans, democrats, and even the president suggested he could support it. this would make grandma's hip replacement and grandpa's knee replacement cheaper. >> what other sort of policy changes might a republican group in control want. >> push approval of the keystone pipeline. want to get that through. unclear if the president would do anything if both the house republicans and senate republicans and senate democrats approved that and sent that to the president's desk. there's growing support fo
