and peter cook is live on takata sidesteps demands for national recall. good afternoon, are we headed for a showdown at this point? >> it certainly seems like we're are headed for a showdown between the government and this japanese auto parts maker. today we had an interview with the ceo of takata, and he again apologized for the injuries related to the exploding airbags and said the company would go even further in their commitment to public safety, but he stopped short in committing to initiating of the national recall that was directly requested by the national trot affect -- national traffic highway and safety administration, putting his company and the government on a collision course, of sorts. they did spell out the steps of their taking, including hiring one -- not one but three former secretaries of separate -- secretaries of transportation, overseeing an independent audit of the entire airbags situation. they will be outside counselors to the company, providing advice, committing to further ramping up production of replacement airbags, including

peter cook is at the labor department with those numbers.ig number -- 321,000 jobs november. 0.4% monthp as well, over month. revisions make this better. in employment rate holds steady at 5.8%. the three to 21,000 jobs we added last month, the best number -- 321,000 jobs we added last month, the best number we have seen. the three-month averaging out to an 78,000 jobs a month. the average for all of 2014 .tands at 241,000 there was widespread again across the board. manufacturing, up 28,000, the best number we have seen in a year. retail, 50,000, the best number since december. professional services, 86,000, the best number since 2010. temporary hiring, up 23,000. you would expect that going into the holidays. the household survey holding at 5.8%. in employment rate for dissipation rate holding steady at 62.8%. the number of unemployed and employed holding steady. long-term unemployed holding at 2.8 million, roughly. long-term unemployment falls. some improvement there. the big story beside the headline number will be wages, up 0.4%. gains

peter cook has more on what we can expect from this new congress. expectation among many is gridlock. any reason to be more optimistic than that? >> not really and you can expect a lot of gridlock early and often with mitch mcconnell and john boehner in control of congress. they will flex their muscles early to satisfy their base. numeral see another -- a number of areas -- you will see a number of areas of conflict, but particularly over business that can give us a sense of whether real deal milking -- dealmaking will be possible in the next two years. 54-46 is the margin in the senate. and the margin in the house is 247-1 48, the biggest for republicans since harry truman was president. mitch mcconnell promise to the xl pipeline would be first up. but the president has all but promised to be to anything that short-circuits the environmental review and an override would require 67 votes in the u.s. senate, and right now that seems like a stretch. but our first flashpoint committed you will, in the new congress. >> speaking of flashpoint, what will e
