studio here peter craven peter has been listening all along with me through these events there at the holocaust remembrance ceremony taking place in the german bundestag what stood out for you peter i thought initially what was very interesting in seoul friedland this address was i mean it was obviously incredibly moving and incredibly immediate because it's his own personal testimony but he began by doing it the job of a historian he teaches u.c.l.a. in california he. has an international reputation as being one of the the great historians of the holocaust and he did his job of showing that very early hitler said that the holocaust would happen that the german people were involved in it that it was not the it was not germany it was german individual german people and the numbers rose from tens of thousands of people being killed initially to hundreds of thousands then to the they absolute horror of millions being killed in in auschwitz birkenau but then he went on to give his personal testament i thought it was as is always the case in these instances so incredibly moving when he talks about the last moment when he was split up from his parents in vishy friends they were taken a
