peter doocy's following the latest from the pentagon and why ramadi matters. >> reporter: jenna there'soil in ramadi, but there's a lot of it where the largest oil refinery in the entire country is, and whoever controls the oil is in control. it's where the pentagon is working the haroldest to repel isis fighters. listen to this. >> i would much rather than ramadi not fall but it won't be the end of the campaign should it fall. we've got to get it back. the focus is, in fact, on bayy. >> reporter: isis militants managed to breach the outer perimeter of the refinery there but were repelled at first by iraqi security forces before the pentagon sent in some air support, and overnight the pentagon tells us they took out five isis tactical units with five airstrikes compared with just two airstrikes in ramadi where this morning a source on the ground is telling us that isis has surrounded a government compound. and, remember, the pentagon says if ramadi falls, not the end of the world. but that is not a strategy sitting very well with republicans who are worried about losing gains that cost

peter doocy live in baltimore with the very latest. peter? >> the very latest in the last few minutes, hammers and nails and big plywood sheets going on to what were the windows of that cvs that was looted and then burned by rioters on monday. for the first time since we've been here now, traffic is flowing through this intersection. it's been the center of all the protests north, and pennsylvania. but authorities are still here. you can see just in the last few minutes these officers were all dropped off. they are waiting here. at the other side of the intersection just ipcase. that said last night was quieter. officials are declaring that the first night of the curfew was a success. when you watch the video, there were some folks -- many many folks who stayed out past the curfew started at 10:00. they were sent home with pepper balls. other folks were sent to jail for handcuffs for wandering into the area despite many warnings not to. there were no big structure fires. only one officer was injured when somebody in the crowd threw rocks. awa

martha: peter doocy is with us now. >> reporter: the sun is shining and the air has cleared. the streets and the sidewalks are still littered with these cannisters of smokes, bombs and of the pepper balls that were used to disperse the crowds. you look here. officers are letting traffic through for the first time in a few days at pa and north street. but they are still standing right here keeping a close eye on everybody that drives by and everybody that walks by. things were so bad yesterday and the night before that they want to be here just in case. they still have the big guns and the body armor. at least 10 stragglers were arrested for violating the overnight curfew. they were loaded into police vans very gently by a police force that is very aware that these riots started when there was a video of police arresting freddie gray. protesters were screamt screaming obscenities at police. but so far it's peaceful. martha: how visible is the presence in baltimore. >> reporter: you can't miss them when they are patrolling the streets. but this morning as soon as the curfew end
