peter doocy is live in washington. peter, where do republicans have the biggest advantage? >> reporter: the senate, dana. that's according to democrats that i have spoken to admit the senate map will make it tough for them to wrestle control of the upper chamber away from the gop. here is why. they've got to defend four times as many seats as republicans. just eight republican seats up this year compared to 26 democrats or the independents who sit with them. ten of those democrats are trying to win in states that president trump carried two years ago. this morning we did publish new fox news power rankings that will get the closest contest. they find two upcoming races leaning republican. indiana and tennessee. four more are leaning democratic, ohio, pennsylvania, montana and nevada. then the tossups. arizona, florida, missouri, north dakota and west virginia. when it comes to governor races, republicans are on defense. they've got 33 total seats compared to 16 for the democrats. but, the democrats are thought to have an advantage in most of november's 21 governor's races.

peter doocy is live in white sulfur springs. how are you, peter? >> i'm doing all right, shep.of questions about the memo. the handful of republican lawmakers that took shuttle buses from their meeting, party meeting at the greenbrier resort across the street to the conference room where reporters were camped out wanted to talk about things like their breakfast with the defense secretary or infrastructure or immigration. but a very large percentage of questions from reporters wound up being about the news of the day, which was this nunes memo that some of the lawmakers from the house had seen and none of the senators who were here had seen. a big party of these retreats is about getting lawmakers on message regarding big ticket items on the horizon. the elected officials kept trying to get to their left field talking points with limited success. at one point during a press conference with paul ryan and mitch mcconnell where almost all the questions were about this memo, a reporter at the end as this thing was wrapping up stood up and shouted out, some of us have questions that

peter doocy is live on the hill. what is in the budget deal, peter?llion in new federal spending. that is a mixture of money going to the pentagon and to domestic programs. on the domestic side, $90 million for relief efforts in areas that were hit hard in natural disasters, $6 billion to ant anti-opioid addiction programs and the debt limit is extended. the government will stay funded at the current levels for another six weeks. lawmakers have to figure out how to fund the two years after that by march 23. another deadline. bill? >> bill: where would we be without them. what are republicans saying about the deal, peter? >> they're really focusing on the benefits to the military from this package. that's why president trump went on twitter today and explained this. without more republicans in congress, we were forced to increase spending on things we do not like or want in order to finally after many years of depletion take care of our military. sadly, we needed some dem votes for passage. need more republicans in 2018. others in the president's party
