let's bring in peter fenn and also with us here republican strategist ron christie. s the tore of the new book "acting white." we'll have you come on and talk about that, that sounds good. peter, if you write a book, you're welcome, too. and thank you, ron, for stepping in because karen had a heck of a time getting to the station there in washington. it is clear that the election has opened all the floodgates for a huge amount of secret donations. are you concerned about the outsized influence that secret donors would then have over the political process? >> i'm not, alex. you can look at the campaign finance rules that we had put in place the last couple of years. et is perfectly legal for organizations such as the u.s. chamber of commerce and other entities that are out there to put money in campaigns that is perfectly legal that they don't are to disclose the donors. the reason is true for what we've seen coming out of the white house and some of the democrats, they want the chamber to reveal the donor list. it's not required. and i think they want to intimidate so

we'll bring in now pat buchanan, also with us democratic strategist peter fenn.entleman, i want to start with pat. where is all this money coming from? we're talking millions of dollars here. in christine o'donnell's case alone the fund-raising she's had is intense. >> the day after she won that primary she got a million dollars in. basically that's all small contribution, medium-sized contributions from individuals. meg whitman's got her own fortune, of course, which she's using. then you've got large amounts of money coming in for these karl rove operations. and then the chamber of commerce has an enormous amount of money coming in after they attacked the chamber for funneling foreign money into the country. i think it's all kinds of money, thomas. it is large and small contributions. it reflects the real sense of fire and energy in this off-year election. >> pat, are you opposed to the foreign money? >> well, it's a crime if you take foreign money in an election in the united states! i think that's a smear. i don't think the chamber of commerce did that. and i

and joining us to talk about that, peter fenn and strategist jim innocenzi.'s talk about where things stand. and in a nutshell they are saying that democrats are making gains in a number of areas but at this point still kind of falling behind. peter, since you are our resident democratic expert and closest to me, i'll start with you. >> i'm not popping any champagne corks here. i think what sometimes happens in these situations is you get close to the election, the parties come home and the democrats are coming home. but usually there is a tide towards the end. and i know jim is going to love what i say, but i think then enthusiasm gap here is not good for the democrats. right now there is a poll showing hispanics favor democrats 65-22% in only 50% of the hispanics say they are likely to vote. you see the same thing with young people. it was a 15 million -- 15 million people increase in the vote in 2008. and our fear of course is that the younger voters that turned out for barack obama are not likely to come out this time. so if we're going to win any of the

joining us now democratic political strategist peter fenn. and republican strategist jim innocenzi. i want to start with west virginia. these ads, sometimes the candidates get overzealous. this first one, we'll look at it. this is an ad with governor mansion. and i'm going to ask you, is this questionable oro kay, what he's doing. you see him here with the rifle and the point being he's going to take aim at the issues and the tough talking. and my question, peter, for you, is this a good thing or a bad thing? and must we also consider the state, regardless of the party? >> you obviously do have to consider the state. this is a state right now that is not in very good shape for the president. his popularity there is one of the lowest of all of the states. the one issue that he's taking aim at, and he evidently hit, is the sign on cap and trade, saying he's going to be against cap and trade. he's trying to translate his popularity as governor to that he's going to take on washington and be an independent voice. he's not going to be a rubber stamp. jim has been pushing that pretty hard
