peter reported. they did not interview dr. ford or judge kavanaugh. just give us your assessment on that investigation. >> i think it comes down to what the investigation was looking to prove. if in fact it was about determining whether this sexual allegation, the assault occurred or not, the first thing you want to do is interview the witness. over at least at some point in the course of the investigation, you want to interview the victim, dr. blasey ford, because you cannot rely solely on the testimony that's provided in front of the senate. those things are done in five-minute increments. and investigators are trained to elicit information. and honestly, to determine the voracity of dr. blasey ford. that's what they do. if this was an investigation to determine the broader question which is the suitability of judge kavanaugh to sit on the federal bench, that also appears to have fallen short in that there were many credible witnesses who have come forward, who talked about some of the discrepancies in his testimony versus what they know. one thing

( marty ) a big story this morning... police arrested a south bay volleyball coach on sexual assault charges for inappropriately touching three boys. 24-year-old peterante was arrested this week after the school contacted police to report his behavior. police say samante inappropriately touched three boys between january 2017 and this month. many parents we spoke to were unaware of the arrest.. but a few were shocked and concerned. <".....it's not good for the children and not good for the school to have a coach like that....">( marty ) the three boys were all on the volleyball team at independence high school. samante was booked into the santa clara county jail. peter doocy happens to be live in fargo, north dakota, lucky for us. tell us what's going on there? >> reporter: it sounds like last thursday's hearing with dr. christine blasey fordett kavanaugh is something that heidi heitkamp thought about for a couple days and then decided she could noted support his nomination to the court. she explained herself like this in an e-mail that we just got. in addition to the concerns about his past conduct last thursday's hearing called into question judge kavanaugh's current temperment, honesty and impartiality. this decision comes as women voters and voters with college degrees have been flocking toward congressman kevin kramer. he's up 12 points over the democratic incumbent. she is trailing. something he sees as a strengths that been all the north dakota voters who have been watching the kavanaugh confirmation chaos. >> to be honest with you, that spectacle proved to be perhaps the greatest political gift i have been given in a long time. the tragedy of it, it exposed how dysfunctional the united states senate is and how badly it is in need of more adults. >> reporter: and senator heitkamp's choice could have direct consequen

peter alexander and jeff bennett were able to get it confirmed, katy. and there are still some mysteries about it, but at least in terms of the sexual assault allegations by christine blasey ford and debra ramirez, the fbi is now authorized to interview anybody they deem relevant. and that's actually pretty important, because as it stood before, and we were the first to report this on saturday, there was significant restrictions placed on the fbi and also on the investigative steps that they would take to corroborate these allegations. really unprecedented. nor ex for example, ramirez offered them witnesses that she said could corroborate her story, that kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a yale party, they weren't allowed to talk to those witnesses. now they are. we don't know if this issue of kavanaugh's drinking, and the disputes about how he characterized his drinking in his testimony to the senate, whether the fbi will be able to examine that question, or this question of whether kavanaugh lied about certain yearbook references that many people believe were sexual but he said were not. so, and those things, some people believe are important, because they go to his credib
