let's bring in republican congressman and chief deputy whip peter roskam of illinois. nice to have you on the program. >> thank you very much. jenna: one of your jobs in leadership is get a sense where everybody is at essentially before a vote. interesting to have speaker boehner talk a little bit before his weekly address. he is one of the republicans relook r luck tant in the past to create a select committee. as of today, do you expect unanimous support from republicans in the house to vote for a select committee? >> i think nearly unanimous. i have not heard any objections and i think its based on the speaker's decision in the past of the as you pointed out there was reluctance on the part of the speaker to move forward with this. then it became clear that the white house hasn't come clean and is not likely to come clean on this. there is information that is not available right now because the white house has been sitting on it. he really had no choice but to move forward on this select committee. jenna: your colleagues across the aisle have differing points of vie

we know we heard a lot from peter roskam this week and, of course, we've heard from trey gowdy, we fullyapped to lead the commission on this, and he's been talking about what he would do. he's a former prosecutor, a veteran prosecutor. his goal, trey gowdy has said, has been to keep this from turning into, in his words, anything less than it should be, not a circus atmosphere, but one that's fact-gathering. we know that senator lindsey graham bicamerally has looked at the house and said, look, when you guys do this, it's important to pick out investigators that are respected by both republicans and democrats in all of this and, also, get yourselves a pr, a press group that can handle any sorts of media crises that would come up as the answers start to come out on benghazi. so, kirsten, we know who it's going to be now for the republicans. talk to me about the democrats. >> well, that's the big question, right? that's what i think will be much more interesting, are there going to be democrats, are they going to boycott it or be there? i think that that's the million dollar question. until

peter roskam. >> thank you, mr. chairman. i think we can work together, really do, to find solutions that work for hospitals and for patients. i have been hearing from hospitals in my state, mr. sean cavanaugh, about the various reporting requirements and programs that impact the work that those hospitals do. i do not think anyone here will disagree that there is much room for improvement in the program and policies related to short-term as well as observation stays. however, we need to a strike the right balance between ensuring that hospitals can comply and that medicare has the ability to in short program integrity. it sounds easy, but it is not. one area of particular increase to me is the increased use of observations based and how it impacts the beneficiary. so, i co-sponsored along with joe courtney and tom latham, bipartisan, the improving access to medicare coverage act which would allow observations days to be counted toward the three day mandatory inpatient stay for medicare coverage of skilled nursing facility ser
