peter strzok is still with us. how do they fit into the larger pattern of trump's carelessness with classified and sensitive information now that you have somebody who's coming out and saying what she saw? >> yeah, well, unfortunately it's not surprising. what we have in front of us is a pattern of behavior, of mishandling classified information. it goes all the way back to the beginning days of his presidency, whether it's what stephanie grisham described at the balcony at mar-a-lago, whether it's the meeting about trump disclosing highly classified investigation to sergey lavrov and russian ambassador kislyak in the same meeting where he bragged that he fired jim comey, tweeting satellite images of a failed iranian missile test, trump routinely mishandled classified information. as the president he had broad authority to handle it however recklessly he wanted to. it was certainly damaging to national security when he did so. but what's clear is the moment he was no longer president, a, he no longer had authority

and joining me now to talk more about trump's superseding indictment is peter strzok, former fbi deputystant director, and the author of compromised, counterintelligence and the threat of donald j trump. peter, it's always an honor to have you on my show. let's begin with these new charges in the superseding indictment. trump now facing a total of 40 counts in that classified documents case. the obstruction charges are egregiously bad, and show the lengths to which trump would go to hide his guilt. what are your thoughts after you've read this superseding indictment? >> well, good morning, katie. my thoughts are broadly that it just got much worse for trump. from at least two big perspectives. look, i is from an instruction sort of view, i can't overstate how broad this counter level obstruction is. it goes from everything to play in games to that narrative, turning over things that he shouldn't have taken with him to begin with. it goes to working with his attorneys to try to fudge the search for mar-a-lago. it goes to moving boxes around. now, it goes to things we've seen about the le

claims in a statement that trump discussed using the irs to retaliate against least lisa page and peter strzokm. -- retaliate against them. an ad campaign in key early primary states like iowa and south carolina to stop trump are from getting the gop nomination, so there's those headwinds too. >> well, yes, absolutely. and of course joe biden did the student loan thing to bring out the vote. and remember, he's still president. he could do manager like that again for the next -- something like that again for the next election. i think handing out to his supporters has been part of his philosophy, and it does drive people to the polls if they think the president's going to pay off their loan. another thing, again, republicans immediate to be war -- need to be wary of. the president has the power at the very minimum to promise or to try to just suggest, i think it often is enough to to drive people to the polls. elizabeth: got it. >> so i think the republicans need to really worry about all of this. again, your point about the midterm election is the one that i hope to keep make which is they did

we don't know if somebody copied that document and as former counter intelligence peter strzok said duringocial events at mar-a-lago there's plenty of photo evidence that the door to the basement area was frequently open and unattended during those events. how do you begin as a former national security official begin to assess the damage that this document had been floating around for months without anyone knowing where it was? >> it's exceptionally difficult task and possibly impossible one because there are so many documents involved and so many sensitive programs that rely on so many sensitive technical collection systems and human sources abroad and if that information has been exposed and has been compromised we don't know the extent of the damage because there's no way to determine exactly who might have access to that information and what information donald trump might have shared with others. i know my former colleagues are doing well level best based on those documents based on what were relied upon and to see if there were any other indications that might have been compromised. t
