host:f peter welch is joining us. farm bill. what does it mean for vermont?a: in vermont, there gary program that will be a good deal better than the current safety net program -- there is a dairy program. there are a lot of conservation programs across the country that will help conserve our land and help farmers with the best practices on farming. that is essential both for the long-term sustainability of agriculture. there is a new emphasis in the farm bill on local agriculture and organic agriculture. there is an enormous consumer interest in trying to get local food and nutritious food. those things are now a prominent part of the farm bill. a lot of emphasis on farm to school programs. the department of defense food program, we are going to be able to use the amount of money we would have gotten in vermont to buy local fruits and vegetables. these are things that will help steer the farm bill from our local food production. some of the challenges, the commodity reforms were not made. we did bring the price down a bit but not enough. that is a significan
