we just heard from congressman peter welsh on what he's hearing from constituents back home.ow let's hear from friend of the show and washington wiseman dana milbank. dana with a recess beard. >> what a beard. >> he stole barro's beard. >> i'm going to keep growing it until they pass something in congress. >> it's going to get long. >> old man winter. >> so dana, obviously isis is a very significant issue for the president's foreign policy team, and it's something voters are paying a little bit of attention to, but we just talked to congressman peter welsh and asked, would your constituents be in favor. people are really part of a war weary nation right now. do you think isis can at all play in to the 2014 midterms? you've seen republicans tie this into a culture of incompetence by the obama administration. or is this really just going to be about the economy, more so than anything in 2014? >> well, luke, it's part of the overall stew of issues that is going on here. that'll be one piece of it. but probably a small piece compared to immigration, to the economy, to jobs and ev

some members of congress, including congressman peter welsh and tim kaine have said we want to have a say here. we want to have accountability and want members of congress to take a vote. we saw the president previously go in that direction when he was plee previously thinking of going into syria with air strikes. do you think he would be susceptible to that sort of pressure to put a vote to congress? >> i think hige's going to get that pressure. part of the reason we don't have a strategy is that it's not just the u.s. it's not just the u.s. congress that needs to settle an what that strategy is going to be. there has to be a political, military, economic and diplomatic strategy that involves other countries. there were anonymously officials from a bunch of other currents today in "the washington post" saying essentially, they haven't contacted us. we want to be involved. there's a lot to work out before we really know what the next move will be. >> one of the next pieces to work out is the public is pretty reticent about getting involved again overseas. even though the isis threat i

and with constituents back at home, we're joined by democratic congressman from vermont, peter welsh.ongressman, if you could just start by telling us, we're back in iraq with air strikes. what are you hearing from constituents there in vermont? >> the reality is very little. the american people get it. that's certainly true in my district. they saw what happened in syria. then we had the collapse of baghdad. now we have very serious situation up in the kurdish area. but they believe that there's not an american military solution for this conflict that has been metastasizing for a long time. so it's not on people's minds. i've been to several country fairs. the one question people repeatedly ask me is, what is going on with congress that we can't get anything done? but i haven't had people saying, hey, what are you going to do about what's going on in kurdistan? >> but some people are concerned about that. i know, congressman, that every district is different. but let's try to get the mood of a lot or most of your colleagues. would they rather be home if they're running for office, wo
