our host this week, peter.eter: the question we're going to be discussing today is germany and the migrants hate or help? and to do so, i'm join here in the studio by three seasoned commentators and analysts. without any further ado, i'd like to introduce them to you. a specialist on the middle east, north africa and much else besides, who is an investigative journalist on the high profile panorama program here on german tv. he says there is among the german people a nebulous majority that falls somewhere between hate and help. the question is, what do these people think? it's great too to welcome back alan. the anglo german writer and journal whoist is a regular commentator for the berlin-based daily deep belt. right wing extremists don't have any solutions, he says. they just whip up anmossity toward the government. and another familiar face on "quadriga" is ursula. who's worked for a whole range of germany's most prestigious business publications as editor, author and writer. most germans are neither racist

peter: 1921.llida: in 1921, because when -- by that point, eleanor has become exceedingly political. and this is really before howe and eleanor bond on the railroad car. peter: and fdr, though, is in the state senate at this point, correct? allida: no. no, fdr has run for vice president of the united states, and that's when eleanor and howe spend the most time together. they're on a campaign train together. but eleanor is very political before that. she's very much involved with unions. and so she's working with the international ladies garment workers union. she's working with the national women's trade union league. she's working with immigrant groups. she's already understanding how to lobby, how to petition, how to build coalitions. what she doesn't know how to do is speak in public. and so howe's big first tutelage of her is how to speak without that modulated voice going all over the place. but then, as doug has said, they form an intractable team for fdr, who say to him -- and this man is s

peter: well, good point. a bunch of democrats had teamed up at the beginning to say we think this is flawed and a number of those in the democratic caucus have come around, again, grudgingly but -- jeanne: how about -- did the white house get them to do that? peter: partly they've been much more aggressive and trying to put information before their friends than they have. this has not been a white house known for working with other people, even its own party. this time they've been much more assertive about getting on on the cause. jeanne: was there actually a backlash to bibi netanyahu's decision to come and speak before the congress? peter: i think there was. it becomes a more partisan thing, rather than bringing democrats along with them, republicans p sort of lost their chance to form a consensus on the deal. on some level a certain reality sets in where there isn't another choice. it's not like you can say let's go back to the bargaining table, because the other world powers aren't going back. this sts -

peter: how does all of this affect the consumer? behind the scenes turf war or does it have real impact? com. ohlhausen: i think it has real impact in two ways. the ftc is primarily law enforcement agency and not a regulator. we have brought more than 100 data security and privacy cases. of cramming, billing issues, the ftc has been active in trying to protect consumers in the internet space. i would be concerned they may lose some of the protections because of the fcc has not traditionally played the type of consumer protection enforcement role that the ftc has. the concern is consumers may not really understand that there are two different regulatory schemes and they may think their activities are protected in the same way when they are dealing with an isp or dealing with an edge provider. ultimately, they may not be protected in the same way and i am not sure they will be able to understand that. com. mcsweeney: there are some differences between the ftc's authority and fcc's authority. as maureen pointed out, we are primarily in

peter: monetary policy matters. interest rates are a big influence on asset prices but they run the risk of making it look like they are fine-tuning things with respect to markets, so that is another whole she may be stuck in. joe: what about the market expectations of inflation? janet yellen cited them but in the san francisco fed said market expectations don't have any predictive power at all. should the fed be looking at breakeven's? they: that's one thing look at. they don't have an impact because they are all much the same. we all get our impulse on the same place. one of the problems with what the fed did last week's they announced they were all lower -- they were lowering their expected path of gdp and expected path of the funds rate, but their forecast of inflation stayed the same. that is not credible. you'd think of growth is weaker and they are not raising rates, the idea that they are going to get to their magic inflation target is not credible. joe: do they just throughout all these dots and forecasts?
