pew hispanic center carries a lot of weight. so, for those who don't know, what exactly is the pew hispanic center? what is it that you do? >> we're a non-partisan, non-advocacy research organization based through washington, d.c. we're funded by the pew charitable trust out of philadelphia. and the pew hispanic center is actually part of a broader larger center called the pew research center. we do public opinion surveys, but we also do a lot of look at the demographics of the hispanic community. and one of our signature products actually is, how many unauthorized immigrants are there in the country. but our point is to provide facts. what do we know about the latino population in the us and how are they changing the us and how is the us changing them? >> hinojosa: so, results of the 2010 census. we're now talking about latinos being more than 50 million? >> that's correct, 50.5 million were counted in the 50 states plus the district of columbia. and when you include the island of puerto rico, you get about another 3.8 million latinos. so the hispanic population of the u.s. has grown tremendously, by about 43% over the last decade. and that growth alone actually has

year.more than 27-million people.that's according to a new pew research center report. the number has grown from 7-point-7 million in 19-88.of those eligible voters... nearly half are millennials and between 18 and 35 years old.we'll have to wait and see that's because the report found millennials typically don't register to vote or participate in elections as often as older adults. potential hispanic voters are also becoming better educated. the report found those with a bachelor's degree or higher has increased from seven percent in the last fifteen years.and the number of high school dropouts has fallen. a lot of those new eligible voters are in presidential swing states that could help decide the election. election.the pew research center says hispanics will account for 18 percent of eligible voters in florida. and just over 14 percent of eligible voters in colorado. but the report also found hispanics and asians continue to have the lowest voter turnouts. many voters are african- american.... with only about 64 percent of eligible white voters actually showing up.
