pg&e shut off power in the area.word on the cause of the fire overnight. >>> monday will mark three years since the deadly pipeline explosion in san bruno. and today, pg&e is in trouble again. this time, for claiming bad pipeline reports were in fact accurate. kpix 5 reporter anne makovec is in san bruno with the fines the utility may face. anne. >> reporter: in the meantime this neighborhood has really change in the three years since the explosion. you can see new homes here behind me and new construction continuing here in san bruno. but a lot of people who live around here say it's very hard to move on when you keep hearing about additional hearings, about additional fines for pg&e. they say pg&e just keeps dragging its collective feet. take a look at some video of that day. september 9, 2010, that's when the pg&e gas pipeline blew up and started a fire that killed eight people and destroyed 38 homes, damaged many more, as well. a tragedy blamed on lack of pipeline maintenance and poor and inaccurate recordkeeping

pg & e doesn't want the trees over their vault. if the tree shifted at one side over the other, the concern is access. tapp at that time it can be pruned to access the vault. dpw's perspective is we don't want to eliminate some of the trees but also respecting pg & e. i think there is still plenty of room for access to the driveway. i think it's important to note that this is a really expansive vast sidewalk now. if you walk by it. i should have brought you a photo taken today. the sidewalk is already built out with no greenery. i think that is not in keeping with the city's plan policy. even though you might end up with an -- alone tree. i hope that you grant the authority for an allowing to assess rather than the planting of a quantity of the required trees that we would try to work closely with pg & e and the developer that would get the trees would be assessed, but if you would be willing to grant a little bit of flexibility that you were not able to compromise with pg & e, then perhaps to remove these would be assessed. i real

pg&e crews capped the leak after 1:00 this morning.told me this gas line was clearly parked. so now there will be an investigation to figure out what went wrong. >> we actually do have pg&e gas representatives at all times when work is ongoing. we were able to respond quickly last night when they hit it. we'll continue to work with them so this know the location -- so they know the location of our isle lines. >> reporter: this gas leak forced caltrain to stop all of the trains last night. that's because of the proximity to the train tracks here. passengers were put onto buses so they could get between stations but this morning, caltrain is back on schedule according to a representative and all trains are running on time. a pg&e representative also told me depending upon the outcome of this investigation, the private contractor, granite construction, could be forced to pay for the cost of repairing the line. a representative from granite construction called me and said she doesn't have any information at this point about what went wrong

there were 40,000 people that called pg and e about their gas. that means they call turned off their gas? did they need to do that? when do you have to? when there is a problem. how long did you think it takes pg and e to get out and turn it back on? 45,000 people. days weeks, may be a month. who has seen this in the streets. a lot of muck is in there is it's full of dirt and weeds you turn it to the right to tighten it and left to loosen it. your home work you have to look at your house, pop open the lid, look in there see what's going on in there it's not nice and clean like this. who has seen this around their house? everybody. each meter has a shut off. you want to find out where your gas meter is. you can keep track of your usage but you will know how to shut it off. here's the shut off. i have some tools up here, you can look at these. any hardware store has these. they fit on this and it allows you to turn off the gas. when we talk about the wheels it's these on top. if you have a broken pipe. they will spin like mad. when it's daylight, g

pg&e thought a certain pipe was seamless, turns out, it had seams. today's hearing focused on why pg&e took 10 months to reveal it had faulty records on two pipelines, one was in nearby san carlos. pg&e's lead attorney on all san bruno matters said there is no safety issue and there never was. and he said, the attempts to file the error just before the long 4th of july weekend was not calculated soit would go unnoticed. he told the cpuc boy have called alj bushy to avoidy kree yaiting the impression we're trying to do something sneaky. san bruno city manager connie jackson says wounds from the explosion three years ago are still difficult for the city to get over. >> this is not a situation you get over. it's one you come to with able to deal with better over time. it's a tough time for us. it's made more difficult knowing that fines exist. >> two san francisco land lords nicknamed landlords from hell are going to jail. they were sentenced this afternoon, prosecutors say they tormented tenants trying to get them to move out of a building they made a
