southern california utilities turned them off in fire season, but after the north bay wild fires, pg & e wouldn't say whether it turned off it's reclosers, but the company recently acknowledged it only has the ability to shut down a limited number. in a letter to jerry hill, pg & e turned off 38 reclosers, it has 6,900 in it's system, and it only shut down three reclosers in the hardest hit sonoma and napa areas. the company says the shutdowns are part of a pilot project that was limited to the worst of the area's considered high fire risk. senator hill says he surprised the company had such a limited ability given that a top official pledged back in 2015 to have shut down capability in all 132 identified high fire risk areas by the 2017 fire season. >> i think that's the troubling part. that they misled us into that because had they said that they didn't have that system in place, then we would have followed up with more questions to try and find what the problem was, and may have been able to focus in on that a couple of years ago that may have prevented these fires in october. >>
