we spoke to pg&e this morning. they are telling us they think it may be mechanical damage that caused the explosion sunday evening. let's show you some pictures from sunday evening. it happened just after 3:30. first reports of water gushing from the side of the hill came in. that was followed by an explosion. the force was so strong that it blew through the side of the hill. the mud slide shut down 280 near woodside. pg&e crews were testing a three- mile section of the pipeline between men machine and woodside. these tests are prompted after last year's explosion in san bruno. they empty a pipeline, pump it through with high-pressure water to test for leaks, especially as they gear up towards the winter months. pg&e says testing for leaks is exactly what these tests are designed to do. as i mentioned, these tests were designed after the pg&e explosion in san bruno. they have tested 120 miles of line so far. they expected to do another 30 miles before year's end. we're told pg&e crews will be back out this morning
