phammi fallujah is a name familiar to americans after a hard-fought battle put up a decade ago. ne american photographer was there with the marines 1st battalion as it fought through fallujah. journalist hayne palmore remembers the fight and sees the violenced echoed in what happened today. >> i was a photographer for the north county times europe in 2004, and a reporter there said, "there's a battalion marines going to go back to fallujah, and they'll do an operation of winning hearts and minds, let's go", and i'm like, "let's go", we were told the commanding officers want to win hearts and mind. the first thing that happened is they met fallujah city leaders at the mayors office and compound. when they got there the insurgents did a mortar attack. 16, 17 marines were injured with shrapnel, some seriously. that told us that the insurgency was pretty serious. the marines were planning an operation literally as the army was rolling out to go into the eastern part of the city. basically to say, "we're here. we are different." and, "we're tough." earlier the next morning, march 26th
