> we love this for a monday phil. so what is going on with gas supplies? > > it is called reefer madness-no! it's refiner madness! > there you go. > > last week, refiners rose to the occasion. in the aftermath of hurricane sandy, of course, the markets were screaming, "we need more gasoline! supplies are below normal! the east coast needs gasoline." so refining merchants went through the roof. what did the refiners do? they were refining gasoline not like we were going into thanksgiving and christmas. they work refining like we were going into the fourth of july. we saw refining margins go above 90% capacity, and produce so much gasoline that we saw the biggest one-week inventory build in gasoline supplies that we have seen in over 15 years, since september of 2001. i will take it a step further. what else we saw in that inventory report is, over the last two weeks, we have built almost 12 million barrels of gasoline in just two weeks. that is almost unheard of. the refiners did a phenomenal job, and that means not only are gasoline prices low today, they

cnbc's phil lebeau is back with us from chicago again. phil, what's in it for delta?it root structure? >> it is the root structure and gates at heathrow. singapore airlines wants to sell its stake in virgin atlantic. it has struggled for some time. they own 49% of virgin aen lick. the possible price here -- this is just an estimate at this point according to industry sources -- $1.1 billion to $1.3 billion. who owns the other 51%? we all know who it is. richard branson. for a couple of years now he has been weighing the future of virgin atlantic. this is an airline that despite all the publicity, it has struggled to really make a huge dent in terms of the bottom line for those shareholders. virgin atlantic has not made money for singapore airlines. that's why they want out. they want to focus more on asian reps. >> what are the odds it goes through? >> maybe. good chance that the 49% stake could be sold if delta could swing a deal because it wants these gates at heathrow. they might want to work with their partners over in europe. at the day of the day, this is all ab

phil lebeau knows. he's at a manufacturing flant wheelin plant in wheeling, illinois. >> this surprises a lot of people but at this company, they've got ten openings. i've heard this from other manufacturers as well. they can't fill the jobs. it is not a skills gap. it is because they can't find applicants willing to take the job. look at how many manufacturing openings have come up across the united states over the last couple of years. it's gone from roughly 90,000 up to a quarter million. that's how many manufacturing jobs are open right now. when you look at some of these companies, like here at afilion, they have jobs gone unfilled for months. what do they do here? they turn to lights-out manufacturing. essentially, they take these cnc machines, computer programmed machines, they will program them during the day, turn offer the lights, go home and they have product waiting for them in the morning. the ceo says he has no choice because he can't fill the second and third shifts. >> i sometimes wake u

i know phil is delighted because we got another one passed this past november. it's a great part of our history. (applause) >> but this was one of those early projects that we started out. we wanted to reconnect. we saw the very piers and the underlying part of it decaying. as moe meek so eloquently said, we have to nourish it, we have to reinvest in it. we got a good look at what we needed to do when the bcdc came out with the planning part of this, their contribution to this $10 million of investment. when we started planning with them, the bcdc, we honored that with, again, completing this wonderful project. so, i'm here not only as a cheer leader, but to thank all of the different elements that come together that are required to come together for successful project. and even as a few months ago, i know monique was saying, god, we've got to keep pushing, keep pushing on this. and we did. everybody came together and we pushed for it. we're grateful that the contractors worked with us to do so and they stepped in to make sure things got done. even frankenstein
