suddenly he mixed it up and he brought them into this section but writers, one of them was phil caseywho'd been a police reporter for 30 years and he was a gnarly old guy that spoke 12 packs a day and his desk was a mess and sleeves rolled up and grumpy. he looks at me and says let me tell you something. i want to give you one bit of advice. when you cover parties, cover parties the way you cover a crime. there's always a victim and there's always a perpetrator. [laughter] and that was really good advice. when you cover parties or even when you are interviewing people you think there's one and you know that better than anyone.
