let's bring in senior market analyst, contributor phil flynn is here. our good friend phil flynn.s good to have you. you've been following the oil, the energy markets specifically for years. we see this emergency release of oil. it sounds good, it sounds like we are in a situation where gas prices are high, that the oil should bring prices down, is not going to be the case? >> no, absolutely not. in fact i think grady when he cooked his thanksgiving dinner, you saw the oil cooking the turkey. that was about it. you're right. most of this oil is not even good for making gasoline. a lot of it is sour crude. refiners have too much of that. higher sulfur content, they don't like it to make ethylene so they're probably going to export it to china and india. china and india is going to get more oil. here the united states taxpayers have been for it. >> trace: the first thing that i did yesterday or a couple days ago in this story came out that he was going to unleash 50 million barrels, i said how much oil does the united states use every day? same question was asked to the energy secre

i want to start with phil flynn here.today and last night i filled up and oh, my god, the cost surprises me every time. triple a says the gallon stayed about the same yesterday from today. the oil selling off yesterday with shutdown fears, one of the largest one-day drop since apri. will gas prices come back down, phil? phil: they will. if you look at the wholesale gasoline prices with the drop yesterday they fell about 25 cents but make no mistake about it. it really didn't have a lot from the release of strategic reserve. it really had about the fear of this new omicron virus that's spreading like crazy and it's a concern. it's the fear of big drop in demand but are we way ahead of ourself? i think we are. we drop off the equivalent in price of seeing demand drop by 4 million barrels a day. if that's the truth, we've gone from a 2 million-barrel a day deficit to 2 million-barrel a day overnight. we will see how things play out tomorrow. we will have post traumatic selloff syndrome next week. people will be scared to ste

let's go to phil flynn. this was an interesting week for following that because we got indications this could get worse before it gets better and you have been telegraphing problems with gasoline for quite some time. 11 democratic senators writing a letter to the president urging him to open the strategic petroleum reserve. what difference will that make? >> reporter: fossil fuel - that they run out of business. it seems almost comical to release the strategic petroleum reserve. the underlying problem is the end is coming back faster than supply because the biden administration has chosen to make us oil and gas companies the enemy and because of that the investments to respond to their crisis. $309 a gallon. this is a part of the country where gasoline prices are consistently low, $3 a gallon. every state in the union is above $3 a gallon. they are feeling the pain. the problem is it is a 1-time shot. oil prices go down a week and demand goes up and supply isn't there. on oil and gas production will only hur

we want to bring in a oriole guru phil flynn. , 50 million barrels sound like a lot, but we consume a lot of burials in this country every day. don't we? >> we sure do. in fact, i think we consume that much, i was waiting to go on the air today since breakfast. we are talking a global market, charles. that amount of oil is equivalent to about half a day supply. even if you looked at the united states by themselves, we are talking about three and a half days of supply. so this is nothing more than a band-aid to try to not only lower gasoline prices, but to raise president biden polls numbers which seem to be going the opposite direction of the gasoline prices. >> charles: yet we know that these oil shocks of not only lead to presidencies in office, but almost every major recession has been sparked in part by the rise of oil prices. so, the white house will maybe have to do more than this. it is one thing to do a public relations stunt. it is another to really truly try to curb it. we are such a powerful producer, phil, why don't we

joining me now is price futures group senior market analyst, phil flynn, bull tech capital a markets or being here. phil, that was ugly on friday, what happened to oil. a plunge of 13% on friday, over the coronavirus fears. this morning we've got a rebound of about 5%. this is also fueled by opec plus possibly putting a pause in their output production increases due to this new variant. opec will move two technical meetings to later on in the week to evaluate the impact of the variant. what are your thoughts on the selloff on friday and the he rebound we're seeing, phil. >> i'm omicron was omni-crazy. it was the ninth biggest selloff in oil history. that's why i fear thanksgiving and holidays. when you get these light volumes and you can get a headline the markets can overreact. having said that, not to treat a selloff with some he respect, we did technical damage to the charts and there's always a concern that maybe there's something bigger going on with the global economy that the market sees that a lot of people don't. we do have some concerns about the chinese economy. we have som

joining us now price future group senior analyst and fox news contributor phil flynn.out this for the past weeks and the president came out and said. i want to put a quote on the screen. this is what the president said last week at the pump remain high even though oil and gas companies cost are declining. is that true? >> it is true that they are becoming more efficient but that's what businesses are supposed to. the real reason why gasoline prices are going to the roof because oil and gas companies can't get the type of investment that they need. the reason they can't get the type of investment is because abiding a administration and coherent energy policy which is been a antiphospholipid situation. they have been saying we will put you out of business, we want you out of business, we will become more rely on opec and russia and when things go bad will blame the energy company. they are using a bunch of false comparisons to find somebody to blame. if you can't blame opec and that doesn't work, blame the oil companies and free enterprise, we vice will blame capitalism

phil flynn from our sister network, fox business, joins us live with more. other countries. now, other countries are joining this effort. we're seeing oil from china, south korea, japan among others, but the bulk of the release, make no mistake about it, is going to be from the united states. almost 37 million barrels that is bought and paid for by u.s. consumers. now, most energy experts are going to tell you that this is only going to have a short-term impact on energy price, and we're going to probably have to replace this oil in the future at a much higher price. so we're trying to really manipulate a global marketplace with supplies that are totally inefficient to have a long-term impact. but the longer-term impact is that we may actually pay higher prices in the future. even u.s. secretary of commerce basically came out and said we shouldn't be releasing oil from the reserves to try to manipulate the market. we want to send a real message to the global market, we should tell them the to get the u.s. energy producers back online. ainsley: phil, thank you
