joining us now is fox business contributor bill flynn. phil, it's great -- phil flynn.you. >> hey, mike, it's great to be here and looking forward to gasoline prices coming down. not happening yet, is it? mike: well, so how do the markets react to the move by the president this week? >> not like you would think. you would think when the president says we're going to release oil from the reserves, prices would go down. they didn't. they rally after president biden gave that speech, and i think it's because the markets realize this is just a band-aid effort. it's a politically-motivated effort to try to get prices down for the midterms. and everybody who follows this market knows that short-term solution is going to end up costing americans more in the long run. mike: we have a graphic we can show our audience of gasoline prices since president biden took office, and there it is. if the aaa average today is at $3.79 a gallon. phil, is there something the biden administration could do to help the energy markets such as boosting domestic production? >> absolutely. i mean, t

phil flynn joins me this morning. good to see you again. so tell me a little bit about your thoughts on this as we look at this. we have this policy now where we're trying to get other players, we're trying to pull the puppet strings on other players to get more gas, more oil, more refined fuel into the economy. and yet we keep telling our own producers that they've got to cut back and do less. >> it is crazy, martha. that's exactly what's happening in the biden administration energy plan is working full force, right? this is a president that came into office basically saying he was going to shut down u.s. oil and gas production. cut down regulations and make it a very hostile environment for investors to invest in fossil fuels. and he is succeeding. the only problem with that instead of owning that, you know, he has to face the voters and make up excuses for why prices are going up. it is very simple. anybody in the industry will tell you that the regulations have killed investment in fossil fuels and driven up prices and why you are seein

joining me is price futures group senior analyst and fox news contributor phil flynn. phil, great to see you. how real are the prospects of power outages during the coming winter because of shortages of natural gas and heating oil? reporter: i think that it's one of the biggest threats i've ever seen in my lifetime for this time of year. you know, usually when we're talking about power outages, david it's when the air conditioner units are on with weather issues and heat. not in the winter and that's very dangerous because people right now that for example, heat their house with electricity, you know, may have their power cutoff during the day, and it's mainly because of an avoidable reason. it's because of the inability of new england to import enough liquefied natural gas partly because we're sending a lot of it to europe, part of it is because of what jackie said, the lack of investment, and number three, the jones act which really restricts moving lng from texas to the northeast, which even makes the situation even worse. david: there's a threat from the administrat

want to go to phil flynn taking note of what opec countries are doing to cut production. ot of this has to do when we went to tap the reserve. they didn't like it. and this is their revenge. explain. >> it is. the revenge of the cartel. absolutely, neil. if you go back to when the biden administration first released oil, it was in november before the war. they did it because opec wouldn't raise production when joe biden called them and told them to do it. now after months of releasing oil, opec will cut production maybe as much as two million barrel as day. within three months, all that oil that we release to the world market is going to be taken back by opec, saudi arabia and russia. it's a net effect of zero. that means your gas prices are going higher. >> neil: now, we had back-to-back big updates in the market, a lot of that has to do with the notion -- these guys could be wrong. we've seen that -- but things could come back sooner than we thought and would lead to a demand in more oil. what do you think of that? >> that is part of the equation, right? we were pricing

go to phil flynn on this development. phil has another theory on this. always bears watching, of course always phil bears listening. you think when the president started tapping the strategic petroleum reserve that kind of lit a fire under these opec, opec plus countries. can you explain? >> really easily. back in november, neil, long before the war broke out with ukraine president biden after you know, shutting down production here in the u.s., canceling pipelines called on opec to raise oil production. opec saw the market in a different way than the president. we're not going to do that. question see demand relatively staying strong. we don't want to see prices collapse. we don't want oversupply in the market and they said no. president biden didn't take kindly to that. what he did he was going to quote, unquote, send a message to opec. we'll release oil from the strategic reserve so if they don't do our bidding then we're going to, you know, teach them a lesson. well, guess what? opec is now retaliating i think for that move back in november. back the

we'll get right to phil flynn,s phil, i've been looking forward to picking your brain on this all morning. this is quite a moment for oil and gas and the american consumer who is still living through 40 year high inflation. they see opec cut production by 2 million barrels. what does it mean for us here at home when we are already seeing prices nearing $4 as a national average for gas again? >> sandra, you hit the nail on the head. this is an historic decision by opec and i think when we look back in history, this 2 million barrel a day production increase is a day we lost production war with saudi arabia. and you have to go back to what happened back in november, the biden administration had strangled u.s. energy production, gas prices were on the rise, they thought they would call up opec, you know, give us a few more barrels. opec said no. biden administration said we are going to teach you a lesson, release oil from the reserve, and that was like an act of oil production war. guess what, today that production cut of 2 million barrels means the u.s. has lost the war and now the biden a
