i was on with phil hartman, dana. any sketch i was in i would be the fifth lead. it would be me in a bar saying here's your gin and tonic. if i got written into anything on tuesday night i would go to the writers and say get me out of this. kennedy: that was such a hard space to move into because the people who had been there before you, they were so funny. but that was a role that seemed to be made for you. how much of that did you write? >> after the first couple episodes. franco was my boss. franco was the boss. he was so brutal. he was good. he just broke you down. i remember taking my jokes into al and saying here's what i have written out. he looks the jokes over, then he became a senator. when i look at him. he read the jokes and said these would be great if we were doing the unfunny show. so he got rino skin quickly. after a month they had bigger problems. so they let us write it. i couldn't activate until 4:00 friday. i think if anybody wants to get on "saturday night live." if you do two bad shows in a row you will be whacked or out of the loop. you said
