and just below the bahamas our phil keating is live with more on this.these searchers that they might find some survivors floating in the city tonight or tomorrow? >> well, certainly not overly optimistic. keep in mind over the past 24 hours, since the u.s. coast guard began its search, only a handful of the original 85 unaccounted for haitians have actually been found. however, tonight, the coast guard just announced it will continue to have its u.s. cutter look around through the waters, boating around looking for any survivors. but it has suspended all of the airplanes that were involved in the search until tomorrow morning. and then by tomorrow afternoon, they will reassess whether they think this search is worth it. but they're dealing with 1,600 square miles and waves as deep as six feet. shepard: do we know yet if this is a smuggling operation or just a bunch of people who got together for a getaway from haiti or what it is? >> we don't know for certain what it is just yet. it certainly could be a smuggling operation. but if it is, it's certainly

let's get phil keating first. how can the mission change if the shuttle is delayed here, phil? >> well, shep, the only reason we're able to try to launch tonight and possibly tomorrow evening is because the russian space agency, being very nice to nasa and pushing back its launch of the unmanned soyuz that's already packed full of supplies that needs to go to the international space station, so if it does not launch tonight, that means they will try again tomorrow at 5:30 p.m., but that will be it. if they don't get off tomorrow night, they will have to scrub it until july 25. if it does go off tomorrow night, then nasa has to condense the 16-day mission, making it a day shorter and one of five space walks shorter as well. shepard: do you have radar from down about there? >> i do. we can judge by phil's hair it is a little flatter than it normally is, so a lot of humidity, right, phil? >> that's right, janice. there is a whole lot of humidity down here. shepard: move on. good grief. >> sorry. i just had to comment. taking a look at radar, there is the kennedy space center. you

phil keating is monitoring the situation in florida. let's start with the weather. how does it look? >> we start today with a 60% chance of favorable weather conditions. we are now down to 40%. basically, the weather today at the kennedy space center is a lot like yesterday. extremely dynamic. we spoke with a nasa meteorologist. most likely, this will come down to the last hour prior to launch. that was the case yesterday. sunday was gorgeous, but about an hour before the scheduled launch, a thunderstorm moved in from orlando. that was a no go as far as the launch director was concerned. the external fuel tank has been filled. it is just maintained and topped off for the remainder of the day. the seven astronauts were buckled in yesterday when the new goal of the -- no-go delay launch went past. they will board space shuttle endeavour. this mission should be over by now. has been delayed two times. then, the lightning strikes near the shuttle on friday afternoon. it took 24 hours to make sure these are the tree was ok. vent line leak was fixed. it all comes down to

phil keating is in florida. we have covered a lot of shark attacks off of that beach.hat are the sharks in danger? >> we are primarily talking about deep water, open ocean sharks. there are a number of short -- charpoy tear because of -- there are a number of shark bites here because of a wildlife and loss of surfers. one study found one-third of shark species are headed to extension, and that has great impact formerly ecosystems because they are the top predator. research has found, without that predator, ecosystems will be depleted and die. megyn: why are they headed to distinct -- extinction? >> officials are pointing to a large, industrial fisheries. a lot of times sharks accidentally get caught in their match, and historically, they have been considered a buy cast. also at issue is the legal fin hunting. once they are caught, they cut off their fins and the rest of the carcass is thrown back in the ocean to die. they are a delicacy in the east, but many people do not agree with the practice. megyn: what do scientists say need to be done? why do we need them, and h

tell us what this program is about, phil keating. >> the program is designed to provide emotional andme. they can provide emotional support for these soldiers, many of whom suffer from ptsd. we met up with one veteran in atlanta. his dog is trained to pick up items that he cannot. there is another story of a returning veteran who had a seizure, and his do tell, and started barking and barking until someone else came over. megyn: it is amazing what they can do. how big is the need for these dogs? >> pretty big, according to everyone involved. there is one veteran in florida that we met up with. one company called vet dogs depend on donations. some lawmakers are starting to bring up this idea and appropriate a bit of money for this. training can cost a bit of money. but according to the betterment to have them say that they are just absolutely indispensable. megyn: it is great to see them doing their best to help our soldiers in need who are too often forgotten. if people want to help the organization, what can they do? >> they can certainly contact vet dogs. if congress appropriated th

phil keating in clear water beach this morning. how much oil and gas are we talking about?gas, but it's still unclear how much is natural gas and how much is oil. it's miles and miles off shore behind me under the water, and experts say it's enough energy to provide 1 million homes energy for 30 years. much of the area is called the eastern gulf area. it's been off limits for drilling for many years. within that area is calmed the destine dome south of florida, and within that destin dome, there's tons of gas. all of that shaded area was and currently is, rather, off limits to drilling, but under a u.s. senate energy bill which has gone through the energy and natural resource committee on its way through the u.s. senate, that would now allow if it passed as is by the full senate drilling to within ten miles of the panhandle coastline and within 45 miles of the tampa bay area coastline, and, of course, in florida it's quite controversial, and that's why drilling offshore has been off limits for so many years because all of these gorgeous beaches bring from tourists from arou
