phil lebeau joining us here. what is the news?y we're talking about the ford fusion hybrid and the ford c-max hybrid. both of those models claim, according to ford, they are believed to get 47 miles per hour. that's how ford advertises them. that's on the sticker eer on t windows. consumer reports brought them in, did the testing. according to consumer reports, the fusion and c-max hybrids do not get 47 miles per hour. the c-max gets 37 miles per gallon. those are dramatically lower than 47 miles per gallon. just for some point of reference, these are important vehicles for ford because as ford develops that hybrid platform, the fusion, they've sold more than 10,000 this year. they've sold almost 9,000 of the c-max hybrid. that's pretty decent numbers considering ford was nowhere when it came to hybrids a couple years ago. big claims coming from consumer reports. >> okay. i'm not going to pile on to ford because we've seen this with other car companies. so in your long experience, phil, has there ever been a car that has really li

i'm phil lebeau with breaking news regarding boeing and the 787 dreamliner.liner that has run into problems, once delivered into service, this one solving a cutter airway 787 on delivery from the united states to london. just a few days ago. it has been grounded in london. according to the ceo of cutter qatar airways, he says that the airplane developed a generator failure while in flight. now, it was not an emergency landing but a generator failure is what he says. we've talked with boeing this morning. they say they are aware of the issue. they're not sure it was a generator that failed on the qatar airways 787, but the significance of this is remember on december 4th, it was a united 787 that had to make an emergency landing in new orleans because one of the generators failed on that airplane. there are six on these airplanes. and remember, the 787 was designed to use six generators, electric power so that near nth not using power from the engines, part of the fuel efficiency that goes into the planes. the question is there a problem with the 787s? we have

phil lebeau has more on this story. >> a rough day yesterday if you are tracking what's happening withliner. one of two important stories that broke yesterday. the first one involving a dreamliner that had to make an emergency landing. it was flying from houston to newark, new jersey. it had to turn and it had to make an emergency landing in new orleans and united crew reporting mechanical problem. they delivered the dreamliner two weeks ago. boeing technical team is right now in new orleans investigating the problem along with united teams. they'll have an update later today hopefully. boeing coming out and saying that it expects faa to mandate what it's been pushing its customers to do for some time requiring fuel line checks for the dreamliner. checking the installation of two connectors and half of the dreamliners have already been inspected according to boeing. we expect the faa to make this a mandatory requirement later on today. by the way, almost 40 dreamliners have been put in service in the last year. boeing recently increased dreamliner production from 3.5 to 5 per month. pr
