with more on the investigation and how tesla is responding, cnbc's phil lebeau. >> reporter: ever since drivers to take their hands off the wheel for short periods of time, it's been controversial. tesla's ceo elon musk promotes a autopilot as it if allows tesla to drive itself 1 00% of the time in fact, musk has said autopilot requires drivers to stay engaged behind the wheel still, there are pictures and videos on social media showing tesla drivers who appear to not be paying attention while driving, which raises the question, does tesla's autopilot do enough to make sure drivers avoid a crash? and if the safety measures are strong enough, what caused the 11 crashes where tesla's in autopilot mode hit emergency response vehicles? tesla recently turned on driver-facing cameras in some of its model three and model y cars to make sure drivers are paying attention when using autopilot an approach gm has built into its super cruz hands free driving system if the driver isn't paying attention, they immediately get an alert if that doesn't work, the car will automatically slow down and event

phil lebeau said we're seeing a slowdown in the plane tickets being bought and the cruise lines it appears that the bad performers today are the people that are still scared about the economy going forward and maybe what that says about september >> yeah. i think that's right i mean, look at the signal from the market, right? what do investors want to buy? idiosyncratic growth that tells you the implication of that is there's not going to be the economic growth that we thought there was going to be and it looks like we have this reopening burst where everybody who hasn't traveled for a year, hasn't flown for a year, they did it all now it's over. look at airline prices as you go into september and october those are rolling over it's a lot cheaper to fly. you can find a seat. airlines cutting capacity. they're not seeing that demand so we're in this low to slow growth environment the bond market told you that. the yields went down today we're seeing an uptick in inflation but what investors want for now is the nasdaq stocks idiosyncratic growth. to me, it feels very frothy, but feels like i

there are new concerns about flying demand heading into the fall let's get that with phil lebeau withore. >> typically this would be one of the busiest weeks of the year leading up to labor day. yesterday just 1.9 million people flew. we're clearly seeing the plateau in demand. take a look at what we've seen in terms of airplane passenger levels here in the united states, it was down 21% in july down 22%, almost 23% for august. we're clearly seeing things slow down that has the airlines cutting their capacity plans for the fall in september, look at united, american and delta, all cutting their capacity between 7.9% and 11%. and then you look at southwest it's cutting its capacity by almost 7% in the month of september. remember last week, they talked about further cuts, separate from this because of operational issues finally, i want to take a look at jetblue why are we showing you jetblue there's an expectation, according to reports out of europe, that the eu plans to cut nonessential travel. basically ban nonessential travel from the united states due to the surge in covid-19 cases
