. >> i want to bring in cnn national security analyst, and phil mudd., we are learning a lot more about what happened before the capitol at attack. there are training camps alleged to happen prior to january 6th. explosives placed on washington, dc ahead of time. what does it all tell you about how well organized these extremists may be and the potential threat that still exists? >> i think what it tells me that we have a militia problem in this country. if you look at statutes and laws against the country, militias pair what state and federal governments can do and this is something we're doing for the congress and state legislatures across the country. we learn how much people organize in paramilitary ways to the government. there's laws on the books. i'll predict over the next year that politicians are going to be under some really difficult pressure to say when are you going to apply laws to take apart militias? some of these represent free speech so we're seeing the impact of these militias in events like january 6th and the question is going to be

let's get some insight from former cia counter terrorism official phil mudd.this video of the suspect in the alley behind the headquarters there in washington. there's the suspect with a backpack. what does it say to you that this guy is still on the loose? >> it says a couple things. if you look at the video and the timestamping he won't be on the loose forever because they know when this was planted, they can look at video from a neighborhood, they can try to determine whether this person took the metro into this area based on video from metro stations, timestamp it and find people in the same area from the riot at the same time and ask them for identification but it says one more thing to your point and that is this person took some effort to obscure themselves. you are looking at someone who tries to ensure that their face doesn't appear on video. in my judgment that's purposeful. contrast this, for example, to what we have seen in the past in the boston bombing when people didn't do that. so i think the person probably thought about what they were doing b

i want to go to phil mudd, also former cia, and our political analyst. in light of what evan said there, all 50 states and the capitol in washington. all 50 states. how concerning is this? >> i tell you, there's questions that you just heard about the fbi, those would not be the questions i would raise. look, there are fewer than 15,000 fbi agents across 50 states. the concern i would have is a facility that is the u.s. congress, the u.s. capitol that has its own police force that had warning of a threat, couldn't manage the mob of people who overwhelmed the capitol police. multiply that by 50 times. you're telling 50 states, sheriffs and local police, because the fbi can't secure this, look, there is a chance that not only people, but armed people, will show up at your capitol and try to overrun your capitol as the u.s. capitol was overrun. the problem i see, erin, is a problem of numbers. you cannot coordinate a national response to secure 50 state locations that's too many space simultaneously. you can't do tit, erin, you jus can't. >> which is pretty
